I think it's a good idea. Johnny Heddricks pushed him to the limit and there would be no way that he could escape a rematch. Unless he clears up whatever is going on his personal life, he wouldn't be able to focus on a rematch and would stand a good chance of losing. Better to go out as the champ rather than after losing, and never regaining, the title. Most guys don't know when to quit so they end up with regrets, bitterness, and doubts for the rest of their lives. Sam |

Ya he has nothing left to prove and last year made 12 million bucks so he be ok. Now Hendricks fights lawler for the belt |

Hendricks is a tough mother and will hard to beat. I'm not sure if there is anyone out there that can beat him. I was hoping that Rory MacDonald would live up to his potential and make a push for the title, but he still needs some polish. Sam |

Hendricks hits hard but he better take lawler to the ground. Not wise to trade blows with him |

Good move, go out on top....my all time favourite fighter............only weakness is mental......all the quebec fighters seem to be that way........too much emotion.....ie loiseau, cote et al.. If gsp was mentally in the fight he'd make hebdricks and lawler look rather average. |

I read somewhere that Joe rogan thought gsp may have suffered a concussion awhile back hence the last 2-3 fights going the distance. I think it's a good move on his part. We all get old and there is always someone else around the next corner. Think of matt Hughes when nobody could touch him... |

There's more going on I think behind the scenes. At the post fight conference the UFC tried to keep GSP from going to it. ? Dana white said GSP went to the hospital when in fact GSP didn't. ? And Dana was in an uproar that Hendricks didnt get the win saying GSP only won round 3 ? I don't blame GSP for calling it quits. I think he does have personal issues and time to enjoy himself |

This is hearsay but I heard he got some girl knocked up and his dad is dying. There has been a huge amount of pressure on him over the course of several years. That combined with the above is enough to make you lose your drive and focus. I agree that gsp took a beating in this fight however if you look at how rounds are scored it's not suprising that some might have seen a fight differently than most have. Dana white knows this as well but he is not in the business of being technical with scoring cards. He likes slugfest and decisive beatings. Those types of fights makes him tons and tons of money. I think gsp made the right move by stepping down. If your head is not into it. The octogon is not the place to be! I am betting we will see him in the octogon again Cheers Cdn Hunter |

I think he is done. He has done all there is to do in the UFC and was on top for a very long time. It is tough to be the champ and get everyone's best fight. Everyone wants to knock off the best. GSP has been an outstanding champion and representative for his sport. He has earned the right to go out as he sees fit. |

I wondered that as well ? I don't think lawler or Hendricks will hold the belt for very long |

I agree. Hendricks should beat lawler, but in this sport who knows? That would set up condit Hendricks. |
