I realize that fossil fuel prices are going to trend upwards but why the big difference between US and Canada. I can go to international fall and buy gas for $2.89 a gallon. Here in Atikokan gas is $1.40 a litre.....about double what you pay in the US and the liberal powers that be think that another increase in taxes for roads is necessary? PC Critic Slamming Proposed Gas Tax Hike By CKDR News - December 18th, 2013 - 1:38pm The Progressive Conservatives say plans for a new gas tax is going to hurt northern Ontario. A 10-cent tax is being considered to help fund rapid transit expansion in southern Ontario. Critic Vic Fedeli says the move will lead to higher prices for products trucked to the north. Fedeli says we can expect to pay more for groceries and consumer goods. Fedeli also questions why northerners should be footing the bill for upgrades in southern Ontario. He calls it a slap in the face. |

I just came from manitoba and I thought I was dreaming when I saw $1.05 per litre. How pathetic is that!? Goes to show just how much the ontario government is raping us when they charge 35 cents more than the province immediately next to us. And it's not like manitoba isn't making any money off their gas either! |

typical conservative propaganda to pit the north of Ontario against the south. yes everyone is in it together, just the same as all those millions of people paying taxes in the city goes toward fixing roads, and other projects all through out Ontario. we need transit, and more of it or it will only get worse as time goes by. we are light years behind europe and the rest of the world when it comes to transit. unfortunetly everyone will have to pay, doesn't matter if the liberals or the ndp or the conservatives are in office it will all be the same shit. I am so tired of this conservative attack BS, I guess everyone quickly forgets the sketchy deals old harper has been making the last few years..oh but I am sure there will be many responses talking about gas plant scandal etc etc. when some Asian company sets up shop up north and pollutes the water and soil, everyone can thank harper for changing the navigable waters act, and not to forget the FIPA deal, that looks great for all of us. it all works both ways, we have to work together. |

I hear ya. I am no Harper fan. In fact I think the federal conservatives are one of the most pathetic governments I have ever witnessed but the Ontario liberals have been a major dissapointment as well. Yes we need transit but at what cost? |

I hear at what cost? I myself would give my left nut to live up in eh great white north, but obviously there is a lack of jobs for someone in finance up there. I ride transit everyday, and here in the big smoke it is only getting worse each day. sure the 401 and DVP are parking lots most of the time, but if u take a picture of the subway or a go train, all you see is people standing back to back. if we don't do something now, our roads will only get more congested not too mention wear and tear and then we fix them again. we have to find a solution, and the solution down here is mass transportation. if our governments could balance books likes every other business has to, we could make it happen without taxing everyone up their ying yang. yes high prices hurt the north, but they also hurt the south because we spend our time in stop and go traffic. every time I sit in bumper to bumper all I can do is wish to find a dirt road., it ain't going to be fun but we will all have to pay, and our kids, and their kids, for all the stuff the baby boomers failed to do or took for granted. |

I live in Florida and go to Ontario couple times a year to fish and hunt love that place.. got a place outside of ignace about 20 miles west.. I don't see how people afford to live up there .. damn everything is ridiculous expensive. taxes and more taxes.. US is heading that way.. crazy.. all I can say is live cheap and more quality of life..God made a way to feed all things on this earth.. problem is their are a group of people both in the us and Canada that are feeding off the other other 90 % and getting fat. If my wife goes before me believe I will go hermit.. fish and hunt my remaining years if GOD allows it. GOD bless .. hunt fish and be happy... |

They need money for the $1.4B gas plant they paid for, but never built. The company that got the money didn't even ask for it, Dalton just gave it to them because there was a contract in place with no cancellation clause. That piece of @#$% should go to prison. For a long time. |
