Well folks it's time to put a new set of tires on my 2010 Tundra. I am looking for some opinions on what i should be putting on this truck. It's a 2010 Tundra, standard cab, 8 ft box. I don't want snow tires ( this year ) for it but a very good set of all season tires. The ones i have on it are Michellins and have been a good tires, just exploring my options ? Please let me know what has worked and maybe what has NOT worked on your truck. Bill

I have the wrangler DuraTrac tires and nobody that has owned a set will say anything bad about them (at least all those I've talked to). Great semi-aggressive tires that have a great life. Avoid the Silent Armour tires! Despite their name, they're notorious for the sidewalls blowing out. |

I just bought a 2004 F150 with new Duratrac on it and they really impressed me. Just pulled ice shack out last Sunday and both guys helping me were commenting on how good the tires were. |

I have ran a lot of different tire brands, and driving over 80,000 km's a year on bush roads I can tell which ones never to buy! In saying that the best tires I have run are Cooper Tires. Great tires not to mention a lifetime warranty, not too many if any other tire companies offer that. My current set of Cooper A/T3 tires on my Tundra now have 148000, km's on them and have well over half the tread still, and have never had a flat with them. Check them out as well. |

I too am running the Cooper AT3's on my 2011 F150. This is my second year running them as my winter tires and they are great. |

I've had 3 sets of BFG All Terrains (10 ply) now and really like them. Good tread life, decent performance in snow/mud and don't hydroplane. That being said I have heard many good reports about the duratrac and may give them a shot next time. I would stay away from terratrac's by Hercules. |

BFG Allterrain TA's are my current tires and I'm quite happy with them. Had aset of Toyo open countries and loved them other than only 60 K and they were done. I understand the new Toyo's have a harder compound that should help mileage . alces |

I have Firestone Destination A/T 275/70/18 right now. They were $875 for 4 installed so I tried them. About 30k on them now and no major wear, I do a lot of offroad hunting and have done me well. Had Bridgestone Duellers before and got 120,000km out of them. Great tire but were $400 more so I went with the firestone. |

I must be doing something wrong because I keep seeing the BFG's A/T getting the thumbs up and I would have as well ( I swore by them on the life of my last 3 pick-ups) until my last set got less than 20K on them (305/65/18) and at that point were more than wore out. Everyone around our town seems to be switching to the Goodyear, Wrangler Duratracs as did I (325/65/18). This is on an F250 crewcab, 4x4, diesel rotated every 5K and all 4 tires were equally bald with the BFG's. I am getting to the end of the Goodyears and think will end up with close to 60K on them. Been plowing this winter with no problem on them and think by next fall they'll be done so I'm watching this thread with interest as I need tires again, but would consider replacing the Goodyears with another set. My opinion only, is that BFG made their tires softer to comply with Canadian Winter Tire regs and aren't no where near as good as they used to be???? |

Hey Kevin, if you're running them on a. 3/4 ton, you may want to look at the E rated (10-ply) BFG Rugged Trail T/A's. This is my third 2500 mega cab 4x4 work truck that I've got over 120K+ on them and still had lots of meat on them when I traded the trucks in. I run them at 60 psi front and 70psi rear and there isn't many roads in the province I haven't been on. I'd love to run them on my own F150 but the E rated tires at those psi's would make for a rough ride in a half ton

TT, how do you find the traction in mud and snow? I cannot dispute that the BFG A/T's are about as good as it gets without getting too aggressive/noisy although I haven't had any traction issues with the Duratracs either, but I don't think they are quite as good as the BFG's were in 8-10" of snow or in greasy-loon sh$tty type stuff. I still have BFG's on my 91 but they are old tires and have lots of miles on them and lots left but it's just a 1/2 ton and like I said, they are the old BFG's. No little snow flakes on them. |

Sorry to hijack this thread... With the mileages you were getting Kevin on this latest set of BFG's I wonder if you didn't get a P rated set instead of the LT's? As for the BFG Rugged Trail T/A's, they are an all season on/off road tire and I have not had any issues with mud and it's been a few years since I've run them in any significant amount of snow as it is now company policy to now run snow tires in the winter, but on my 04 Mega Cab I ran them all year round and they aren't snow tires but I remember being quite impressed. I also run into a fair amount of snow and ice in northern Ont. after March and before November when I'm not running the snows. The light duty (passenger) version don't get good reviews but with a UTQG tread wear rating of only 400, I can see why. LT and snow tires don't get UTQG ratings. I can't believe the mileage I can get out of a set of the LT (E-rated) tires. I had a set of with 121K stolen from storage when I put on the winters Having said all that, I run about 45-60 K/yr with about 90% being highway but I do run some pretty rough remote roads/trails and job sites in all weather and they have never left me stranded. And when I say I'm getting 120K+, that's when we're trading the trucks in and They are still fine. I know could easily get at least another year out of the them. Through 3 sets and almost 500K I have only ever had to plug one nail puncture. Believe me, I have seriously considered running these same LT's on my own truck but I'm afraid the LT's would just be to rough. I wish they made a C-rated 5-ply LT tire.If you are looking for a good LT winter tire, there aren't many out there but I can recommend the Firestone Winterforce. Now getting back on track, if anyone looking for P-rated half ton tires, look at the UTQG ratings. OEM tires (usually cheap versions of tire)are usually rated at 400 or less tread life. I would look for a tire with a 500 A B rating minimum. If you want a LT tire, look for a C-rated tire. Heavy duty but not as rough as the E-rated tires. There aren't many C-rated tires still around but I've heard good things about the GY Wrangler AT/S. Edited by TrophyTracker, Jan 14 2014, 09:23 AM.

TrophyTracker, thanks. This is all great info. but at the price of the BFG A/T's 325/65/18's installed by a "tire shop" I would hope that they didn't put on tires that they knew wouldn't last. Most people here put one set of tires on their trucks and leave them on year round until they are done. Maybe two sets is more economical, but my real point with the BFG A/T's is that they used to last with year round use. So I think it's time to change my mindset. Thanks for your advise. |

BFG is what my other half said she is a Certified tire tec as she works at Costco and fills in out in the tire center during the busy times of the yr . So to do the job in the Tire Center she has to go to Tire Conventions or as I say Tire School just wish I could go and test drive some of the cars she has drove Vets,Camaros,Vipers etc so she knows what she is selling and I don,t argue. |

sheephunter a tire that size, they will be E's for sure. I think the big difference is in a 2500 with a diesel. I've tried them all. the most I get out of a set is a year!! I think the duramax is to front heavy and eats the back tires. This year I added 600 lbs in the back to off set the plow. Hope this works I just put a set of Toyo open countries on last fall |

BFG Rugged trail are the worst tire ever... employers love them because they last for ever. They have to be the worst tire in black ice conditions. Rubber is hard as hell and in the real cold days of winter your going to all over the road. I have a set on my work truck now and get stuck on the flats in every season. Definitely not a bush tire. All BFG brands don't get the nod in my book. There are a lot of good other brands out there. |

FootedShaft, also apologize for taking over the thread, unintentionally but I think we are both looking for the same info.... Tires that work well in "our" conditions and last. This is not a cheap investment or should we just buy cheap tires knowing we will replace them once or twice a year. My last set of BFG's A/T's were just a bit more than $1800.00 installed and lasted 20,000kms = .09 cents per km. (I don't tow and I don't drive a lot of hwy miles) |

This is precisely why I like them. Hard as hell and last a long time. I drive for the conditions. I don't ever need to push any vehicle beyond it's capability. I have got stuck a few times over the years, maybe a more rugged tire would have made the difference but I do know I haved saved plenty in tire cost and fuel mileage. Same things as a lift kit, not of interest to me. If I go really rugged I will use a quad or a sled. IMO |
