Hey Aaron, Welcome to the site. Do you have any idea which part of Ontario you would like to hunt? |

Aaron. You must be Steve's friend. What are you interested in hunting? Moose, bear, deer? I believe Steve said you had an interest in moose. Not an easy thing for non-residents as adult tags are only available through an outfitter for non-residents. However, you can purchase a calf tag and party hunt with an Ontario resident, not easy to set up. Deer tags are over the counter in many areas for non-residents. Bear hunting requires the service of an outfitter or being hosted by someone with access to a BMA (Bear Management Area) What is hunting like down in California? Any pics... Welcome to OTB.........

Yes, I am Steves friend. I was very interested in hunting moose. It would also be nice to hunt some deer, but I can do that here so I was really looking forward to hunting moose. I have never travled to hunt so I have no idea what all is needed to be able to hunt up there. As for the hunting down here...its not too bad I guess. This year was the first time in 7 years that I got a buck, my first one ever , and it was just a little forkin horn blacktail. I did take a pic of it but I have no idea how to put it on here. Deer is really the only big game here in california, but there are some elk..but good luck getting drawn for a tag there. Thank you for the help.Aaron |

A deer hunt in Ontario is very doable and your odds are pretty good at a nice whitetail buck. What kind of deer are you hunting in California? There are five or six different kinds of deer in California. Culumbian black-tailed deer, California mule deer, rocky mountain mule deer and a few other types of mule deer. Ontario is a long way to go but if you have a few friends here it could make it easier and allow you to fly. Depending on how your budget is an outfitted hunt may be an option too. Great way to learn a bit as well. I would check out the regulations booklet for ontario here... http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/MNR/pubs/pubmenu.html#hunting For a DIY deer hunt you can have a great hunt in many areas of NW Ontario around Kenora, Dryden and Fort Frances. Also some very different and scenic country. All of Ontario is. If you do decide to come I can suggest locations for you and tell you where to get good maps and stuff. Take care. |
