I caught the end of this on the news today, something about april 1 some sort of computer worm will be hatching and screwing up millions of computers around the world. Does anyone have any information on this? Should I be worried about my PC.? Is there anything preventive that can be done? Thanks to all who respond. Northshore.

They are referring to the Conficker Worm which was first reported last fall. It is said that there could be up to 10,000,000 computers infected. I was reading an article on the Globe and Mail that said you should make sure that your anit-virus software is up to date.

Yes, it's the Conficker worm, it's already out there waiting and is asking for further instructions.

That's right, can't get the bug if the computers are turned off, right?

Better safe than sorry. I"ve spent enough money on these computers and have had alot of stuff wiped out because of virus'.

I heard worse. I heard you may already have the virus and is remaining dormant until tomorrow.

If you are on a network and connected to a pc - as this is a pc virus... you could be screwed "if" it has made it's way through to your Mac. Gotta be concerned about email, shared discs/gig sticks and any other way you get stuff from one computer to the other - just like a real infection... internet of course.

Man, this is terrible for people who have no back up capabilities. I'm burning CDs and disconnecting my internet cable just in case, but at some point I gotta turn it all on again... no way out I'm afraid.

If that's the case, I'll be without a computer for a while. I'm trying to save up enough money for a widow, so you can bet that I won't go and spend any money on another computer before I get my bow. The computer will have to wait.

If that virus makes its way to my Mac, where I do most of my work, I'm gonna lose it big time...

Hey fellas, if this the end - if I go down, it's been swell.

Doesn't matter if you turned off your computer. The worm has been out there for a long time. The best way to tell if you have it is to try and log on to microsoft web. If you can then your OK.

Yep

You can also try to log onto Macafee or Norton Anti Virus sites... Same thing, if you can log on them sites, your computer didn't get hit.

I turn it off at night. Haven't turned it on to see if I got it or not - That's what I meant. Your computer could have had it for months already.
