I just got home from a nice trip to Thunder Bay. Spent time with family on Friday and did the show on Saturday. John Kaplanis (Trapper John) and the rest of the NOSA team like John Hay and Dennis Ukrainec were on hand to run their show and keep things moving. It was great event with many of our own members in attendance. 53 critters were brought in for measurement. About 7-8 moose two of which measured in the low 190's. All made Ontario book except maybe for one really odd moose rack which appeared to be from a very old moose far past his prime. There were 3-4 bear entries. Two of which made B&C. The rest were deer, lot's of em. The top two typicals netted in the low 160's. Lot's of 150-160" animals. Lot's of really great gross typical scores which had some non-typical points. The top two non-typicals were in the high 180's including one which netted 167 as a typical. He chose to enter it non-typical. Gord Ellis gave a presentation on deer hunting techniques and calling. Our own BigbullJoe (Joe Dampier) gave a moose calling seminar complete with home video. Canuck (Shane Baker) who is also very involved with NOSA had a booth for his business as well as other local venders. There was a moose calling competition. Really enjoyed the kids competition. I missed much of what was going on because I was busy measuring. Even with 6 of us measuring it was tough to keep up.

Here are pics from the event with short comments......

I think the event did very well for it's first time and look forward to next year!

great pictures Rene. It was a great show and we were really impressed at the quality of bucks that came in.

NOSA did a great job putting it together and keeping things running smoothly.

It was a great show and we're already looking forward to next years.

Right on, great pics. Good to see the Beasleys made it!

Yeah there were a few big bucks that didn't come in. Some were at the taxidermist and some no-shows. Couldn't have handled any more than we had anyway. I think we will be looking at more measurers next year.

Looks like a success. I hope they have one next year. I was looking forward to it but I had to attend a funeral of a friend’s father.

Rene, I just wanted to thank you and Deb, the Beasley Brothers as well as Dave Nuttall and Joe Dampier! You guys(and gal) were a class act and you worked like beavers that afternoon scoring all those antlers and skulls! The 1st ever NOSA Big Game Event was a success and we will be doing it again next year with hopefully more entries and better prizes. I see I have my work cut out for me next hunting season if I want any of my entries to appear on the leader board of that scoring contest...man there were some gorgeous specimens entered! Again, thank you and anyone who's reading this...we are lucky to have the folks named above working so hard to promote and draw recognition to the great animals that we are so lucky to be able to pursue. Good hunting all!

Good stuff Dennis! All the NOSA staff/Directors did a great job to put the event on and it looks like it might go even bigger next year with the possibility of putting it in a new location, Travel Lodge Airlane...maybe! We'll see what sort of interest we can generate leading up to it. More prizes and raffles along with some angling displays/product....who knows this could get quite BIG! OH, by the way...a newspaper writer in Geraldton of all places, did quite a job cutting NOSA down for holding this event...can anyone say :petasux:....however watch for NOSA's official response in upcoming issue of Geraldton Times Star!!! Cheers all...
