2009 Big Game Night Rules of Entry For Moose/Deer antlers and black bear skulls

1. All skulls/antlers must be clean of any exposed flesh before being entered for measuring. Antlers with cape still on for taxidermy mounting, will be permitted however the caped portion shall be sealed off with a plastic bag, leaving only the antlers exposed for measuring. Partial rot or foul odor due to decomposition may disqualify skull or antlers from being measured. Skulls/antlers may be cleaned by removing flesh and hide carefully with a knife and boiled to loosen and remove remaining flesh. Final decision on the condition of the skull/antlers to be measured is at the discretion of the measurers.

2. All measurements will be based on the Pope and Young/Boone and Crockett measuring system and all measurements will be conducted during the day of the event (Jan. 17) To enter skulls/antlers that have been previously measured they must be accompanied by a Foundation for the Recognition of Ontario Wildlife (FROW) score sheet and signed by a recognized FROW measurer.

3. Any skulls/antlers that the hunter would like to have entered into the FROW records, must be dried for 60 days, HOWEVER for the sake of the NOSA Big Game Night this requirement has been waived for the purpose of including animals harvested late in the 2008 fall hunting season.

4. IF YOU WISH TO HAVE YOUR ANTLER/SKULL ENTERED INTO THE F.R.O.W. RECORD BOOKS DURING THE EVENT, THEN THEIR ENTRY REQUIREMENTS, including 60 day drying period, MUST BE FOLLOWED AND WE WILL MAKE THAT OPPORTUNITY AVAILABLE TO ENTRANTS. A SEPARATE ADMINISTRATION FEE OF $20.00 FOR FROW ENTRIES WILL BE REQUESTED BY FROW.

5. Antlers and skulls legally harvested from any open season/year will be allowed entry into the award program provided they have not been entered into any other competition previously or appear in any record book previously. A waiver will be provided and must be signed as testimony that you agree to this term of eligibility. ALL VIOLATORS OF THIS CLAUSE WILL BE EXPELLED FROM THE AWARD PROGRAM AND WILL BE BANNED FROM ENTRY TO ALL FUTURE NOSA SANCTIONED BIG GAME MEASURING EVENTS.

6. During the NOSA Big Game Night a measuring fee of $10.00 for Moose and Deer antlers and $5.00 for bear skulls will be paid upon submitting an entry form with antler/skull to be measured.
PLEASE NOTE: THIS FEE IS SEPARATE FROM THE FROW ADMIN. FEE OF $20.00 WHICH IS TO PROCESS YOUR ENTRY INTO THE FROW RECORDS BOOK IF YOU CHOOSE TO DO SO…ENTRY INTO THE FROW RECORDS IS OPTIONAL, IT IS NOT MANDATORY FOR ENTRY INTO THE NOSA BIG GAME EVENT AWARDS CATEGORIES LISTED BELOW.

7. $100 1st place awards will be based upon the following structure:

The second annual NOSA big game event will be a great get together for Thunder Bay area outdoors men and women. There will be a number of local vendors on hand, events and seminars. Some huge moose, deer and bears will be measured and it is expected that some new top scoring animals will be making their record
book debute.

Me and deb will be there at the measuring booths along with Paul Beasley, editor of Ontario Monster Whitetail magazine and OTB member, Joe Dampier, professional guide and local prostaff also a longtime OTB member and I think Doug Berrywill be there with his brother Dave both long time members of OTB and very succesful Ontario hunters. There will be others of course and if I failed to mention you I apologize. Post up if you do plan to attend and send trapperjohn (John Kaplanis) a PM and get him fired up to make some posts on OTB on behalf
of NOSA. He is a very busy dude but some prodding should get him on here
posting. :D
