Illegal Wolf Hunting in Red Lake Area

An Illinois hunter and his guide have been fined $2,500 for illegal wolf hunting in the Red Lake District.
Court heard that John Shott and Melvin Martin of Newfoundland were hunting in the Long Legged Lake area last September when they encountered a wolf.
Shott killed the wolf and brought it back to the tourist resort where Martin was employed as a guide.
When the pair learned that Shott required a small game licence and game seal, they abandoned the carcass in a remote area.

This is exactly what the anti's wanted when they somehow got into the government diecision making process and all reason was abandoned and a very stupid decision was made to protect wolves. WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They were never in any sort of danger and now we make it tough for hunters to hunt them. A non-resident has to buy a $270 tag for a wolf and a small game licence which is $60 or something to shoot a mangy deer and moose killer. WHY??

This pisses me off. The hunter should get a handshake, instead he get's a fine. Thank you urban decision makers........not.

This is bull. :killpc: I can't believe this crap  :bang: :spinning: . Like non-resident hunters are gonna pay all that money to purchase a tag to harvest a wolf. Heck I wouldn't pay the resident amount to harvest a wolf. Hunters should be allowed to harvest as many wolves as they want while their hunting. There are way too many wolves and we need all the flexibilty to help hunters harvest them. Im getting really tired of the anti's having negative impacts to our wildlife management and conservation. City idiots (not all people from the city) don't realize that harvesting is part of conservation. If only residents who hold a valid hunting and fishing licence should be able to vote and contribute to legislations and regulations pertaining to our wildlife and natural resources.
I don't always chase tail, but when I do; its whitetail. Stay camo my friends.

I agree with all of the above posts. I feel the MNR is manageing our woods in Ontario for the benifit of predatory animals, mainly wolves and bears.

Does really take a biologist to understand that there is only so many deer and moose to go around and that an increasing amount of wolves (because of unfair tag prices and limits) and bears (because of cancellation of the spring bear hunt) will do nothing but shrink the game animal herds faster than you can say out of Province hunting. I think if hunters say for example are responsible for harvesting 10% of the moose and deer well than at the very least 10% of wolves and bears should also be harvested, probably even more than 10%.

I can honestly see a big time crash in the Ontario moose population just around the corner and from the way the MNR is going to change the moose tag allocation system I think they see it happening as well.

I would love to see the manageing of our fish and game taken away from the MNR and put into the hands of anglers and hunters. These are the people who use these resources and we all know that no angler or hunter wants to see the fish and game disappear. I hope that the MNR will get their crap together sooner than later but I know things will have to get alot worse before the politically influenced MNR will ever use common sense.

I guess those non-resident hunters should have taken the advice of former Premier of Alberta Ralph Klien when he said those infamous words "shoot, shovel and shut up". Northshore.
