Starting to see many cops on the sunshine list every year. Getting to be a very well payed occupation and even in these economic times they get their hefty raises. Northern Leaders Discuss OPP Pay Hike Posted by Mike Ebbeling on Friday, February 4th, 2011 am 9:02:03 AM A 5% pay increase for the OPP has Northern politicians upset. Red Lake Mayor Phil Vinet says policing costs continue to rise on a yearly basis and notes the Province can't continue to download policing costs onto Municipalities. Vinet stresses he appreciates the work of officers but notes the Government must do something to help communities with the increasing costs. Thunder Bay Mayor Keith Hobbs says the pay increase is ``irresponsible'' when other public sectors workers are expected to have their wages frozen. |

Tough job, I'm sure they deserve every penny they get. Maybe one of the reasons you are seeing more officers on the "sunshine list" is because of all the overtime due to manpower shortages. A buddy I hunt with is on the OPP, and I can tell you that they took cuts for the last 3 yrs, and this 5% increase is only good fro the next 3 yrs, so only one increase this year, nothing for the next 3. Seems as though you have an issue with that ''Getting to be a very well payed occupation and even in these economic times they get their hefty raises'. I for one have heard many of the stories these guys/gals go through, doesn't interest me. |

Your right. They have a job that I wouldn't like to do and that is a one time raise. It was an issue the way the press worded it. Many of the municipal employee's have been getting pressured to take no raises. |

The sunshine list was created back in 1996! 15 years ago! It should have accounted for inflation over the years. If it had, todays list would only include those people making over $130,000. The public gets so upset to see more and more names added every year but never consider that the dollar amount has been unchanged for over a decade. It needs to be re-vamped. It would also be nice to see the press give the whole story and not just spin the public up all the time. If you really want to see who's abusing our money take a look at all the non-profit organizations that are on the list and the number of employees over the $100,000 mark running charities! Yah right!? I'll skip the kettle this year and just drop cans off to my local food bank. Sorry for the rant
