M.P. Scott Reid and M.P.P. Randy Hillier are trying to put property rights into the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. They are using a section 43 amendment, which would apply only to Ontario, and would only have to be passed by the Ontario legislature to be entrenched in the Charter. Here's the Press conference. Here is the petition website for the effort. All of the examples in the news conference are on-topic and worthwhile and I support any initiative that will correct these inequities. However, when I see its being initiated by Hillier I'm very circumspect. This is the same wingnut who wants land owners to have unlimited privelages (not rights) to poach any wild animal that comes on their property. Some of his backers have already been reported to have sold depredation permits for people to poach deer on their property without licence or open season. If this goes forward the outdoor community has to keep aqn eye on it or else we'll have to obtain the "laird's" permission to kill the King's deer, while those of privelage will have unlimited access to game. |

Hmmm that is interesting. Selling depredation permits? This is concerning. Thanks for the added information Rick. |
