The Dryden buck...this is what he looks like on the wall in the Dryden museum. notwor

By far the largest typical Ontario buck from NorthWestern Ontario. Unfortunately it is not in the record books because it was poached but that takes nothing away from the animal and the genetics present in NW Ontario.

tracksoup have you seen it with his body still attached. i was lucky enough to see it 2 days after it was shot, my uncle was the head CO in dryden at the time and i was in ignace visiting and he called everyone to come look, so we drove the 1 hr to dryden to look at it. just a massive deer, pictures don't do anything for this rack

I can only imagine what it looked like still intact.
Did you get to touch it!.... notwor You better let me in on it..the next time you get a call like that. woohoo
I only live two hours from Dryden...so I was able to see this deer in person at the museum...simply amazing!!
I saw one on the hoof that looked bigger when I was out bowhunting this past fall.
I hope to get a crack at him next bow season. That would make my life!! :D

It's just too bad he was harvested illegally, real shame a REAL hunter didn't harvest a trophy like that.

I agree. The mount is horrible. It should have been brought to a decent taxidermist to portray the beast properly.

think people need to realize that the Tax payers likely paid for the mount, am glad they cheaped out, too bad they won;t let it get properly scored

the mount was done by hawkins taxidermy out of winnipeg ( they have since closed their doors- out of business). yes it was the MNR that had it done and yes they wont let anyone near it . i heard a rumor that it (the mount) was getting too much attention (ie;score it properly/people wanting to get their 'hands' on it) that the MNR might 'dispose' of it!!

I sure hope the MNR doesn't dispose of it. The MNR should have it displayed to portray the quality animals we have in Ontario. The buck deserves its respect and so does the public. If the MNR disposes of it I for one would be extremely upset. I think the mount should be looked after by FROW to take around to shows and events, but the public should own it. Why dispose of a beautiful animal that will help outfitters and hunters in Ontario. And yes it should be officially scored. I hope this is just rumors the MNR can't be that stupid. Or can they? :coffee:

Totally agree the MNR should offer this animal up to FROW to display at event for the public to witness what could be roaming in their neck of the woods.

Yeah, I heard a rumor that Milo Hanson might dispose of his buck as well, getting way too much attention and people want to get their hands on it. lol))) lol))) lol)))

Anyway, I have a plan to solve the MNR's dilema. This Nov while hunting in NW Ontario, I will shoot a bigger Whitetail than the Dryden Buck, then it will be forgotten and the MNR will not have to destroy it. :fudd:

I TOTALLY AGREEE IF US TAXPAYERS PAID TO HAVE IT MOUNTED WE OWN IT.
NOT THE MNR. We should decide whats to be done with it and as far as im
concerned it should be in a museum . hey theirs a new one the anglers and
hunters started up i think its called the ontario heritage museum THAT WOULD
BE A GREAT PLACE TO PUT IT WHERE IT CAN BE WATCHED AND A CAMERA
ON IT AS WELL.

another flaw in a scoring system if you ask me. Yes the deer was poached but can they not put POACHED in the heading in the record book? The deer should still get the credit of what he was and what area he came from . The record book allows road kills and they allow deer that are found dead . Who is to say that some of these deer that are found dead and entered into the record book were not in fact poached?

Shane:

Both FROW and B&C would recognize the buck, however, the MNR refuses to allow it to be entered.

Where did you get the image of the score sheet? What I've heard over the past few years is that someone who knows what he's doing measured the dried rack, and came up with a score of 192+. There's a lot of junk and non-symetry on that rack, so I assume that there were several judgement calls made resulting in a discrepancy in the scores.
