Took my 3 year old (just turned 3 march 6) out saturday morning to a small patch of bush (crown land) close to the house. I wanted here to hear her first gobble. I have never gave this patch of bush a second glance but figured I would take a look at it. Well we walked in to the bush about 50 yards at 6:45 AM and started yelping with very little confidence that we would get a response. Well after about 5 minutes of hearing ducks and geese 12 turkeys fly from accross the road, accross the field, and and in the bush, that was about 1/4 mile away from us. The 12 turkeys flew from their roost (that I didn't know existed) strait too us and landed in the tree above us. It was the coolest thing ever. BUSTED - I didn't let out another call we sat there and wathed them for about 10 minutes and my little girl kept whispering "I wish we could shoot em daddy" then as we walked away they all flew back to where they came from. The outcome of that mini scouting adventure was definately not what I had expected. I regret possably educating these birds, but it was worth it. MC P.S. I went back yesterday and sat in scilence untill dark and have pinpionted their roost. Gona go and knock on the farmers door tonight. |
