Went out yesterday with my hunting partner to see if we could locate any birds. Walked most of the access trails that run in to the land we hunt on. Seen alot of birds quite afew hens and some others that we couldn't get close enough too tell what they were. Did see 4 mature gobblers along with at least 1 jake. Call two of the gobblers right in to 20yards video them with a digital camara. Will post it when my buddy e-mails it to me later. They never knew that we were even there we let them walk off then got up an left.

Also found a two year old 4 point shed with the startings of a drop, no pic. Checked out some area that we have never been to on some of our land, had to cross a swamp to get to it on the back we cut across the swamp farer down and found alot of hardwood knolls in the middle of the swamp that are 10 feet higher then the swamp it self. Couldn't believe the deer sign on the knolls. Know now where I'll be this fall in the early season. Going to head back in there next week to have a better look around.

:allright: If you know where they are and were they like to go your one step ahead of 90% of the guys out there. I've found that sometimes the later morning is better. We've had good luck on those mornings that we can't get out until later by setting up in an area that we know they usually head to. I'm guessing that they have already taken care of their hens' needs and are still looking for some more loving. Get in front of them and watch them run in with beards a swinging!! Can't wait.

Congrats on your shed and good luck this season.

We very rarely get to head out before daylight as I have to drop my daughter off at the babysitters when we are hunting. We've killed most of our birds after 8:30am. Inculding a 22lb gobbler last year.

Went for a walk while at work today and call a big Gobbler out into a field 150 yards from me belly crawled out of the area as not to spook him this close to the season. Just have to keep an eye on him till the 25th now.

Do you regularly call to birds prior to the season? Aren't you worried that they will become call shy? After coming a few times to your call only to find nothing there, are you sure they'll keep coming back?

I remember during the course they said we shouldn't call to birds before the season. Its not something I do during my scouting misssions. I'm just curious if it actually affects the birds or not.

I never call on properties that I intend to hunt ,only properties that I don't hunt . I find a high point and climb up in my stand and just watch early in the morning , I find where the bird's come and go before the season start's .I'll scout it in the morning and then I'll return in the afternoon ,these bird's are very predictable ,if you watch them long enough.

The birds we called in to us were on a peice of land that we won't get to hunt this year most likely. We try not to get the birds coming to us every time we go to a place to scout as it always cut the scouting trip short. Last year you couldn't even use a gobbler call before the season with out a pair of gobblers coming in. They came to us 4 or 5 times before the season and I had them come in to me once during the season, I could notice that they were starting to shy away from the calls as there were two other that hunted the same land and bumped those birds from the roost a couple of times along with being busted afew times crossing the open fields.
