How many are using a bow?

How many people are going after their turkeys with a bow this year? What style of bow and what broadhead are you going to use? I will be trying with my Excalibur with either a Tekan or Slick Trick broadhead.

Definitely the bow for at least one of my birds. I will carry the gun depending on the weather and the odd property is not very conducive to bowhunting,

Here's what I'll be shooting...Click the link...
http://www.g5outdoors.com/#sec_tekan

G5 Tekan's with 1-5/16" cutting diameter. I've only shot them to 30 yards so far but can't believe how well they fly. Out to 30 yds there has been no noticeable difference between them and my field points. I know a lot of manufacturers make this claim but rarely is it true. I've had other mechanicals that were as much as 4 inches off from my field points. I'm really impressed with them so far and besides performance they just look sweet!!

Oh, and I forgot to mention that each pack of three comes with two practice blades that do not open up on impact like the real ones do so they fly the same without all the target damage the real ones will do. Another definite plus!!

If you're teetering between Tekan and Slick Tricks...give the Tekan a try! I'm confident you're results will be similar to mine and the added cutting diameter is really a benefit with turkeys.

Haven't finished patterning my shotgun yet but will let you know what I settle with when I do!

I'll be shooting the Switchback XT with either the Slick Tricks or a good mechanical head such as the Spitfires backed with a Zwickey Scorpio arrow arrester. Might give the G-5 Tekan a try or the Buckbusters mechanical (without the fixed bleeder blades) which have a huge 3" cutting diameter.

I'm not yet decided what head I'm gonna go with, but I like the idea of the Buckbuster's 3" cutting diameter. I've been told by a couple of turkey bowhunters that the Buckbusters fly like a field point, but I have yet to test them for myself.

I'll be trying out the bow on at lease one of my birds, going to head out today to look at different broadheads. Might just stick to my muzzy's and addd and grasshopper to them. Not sure as of yet.

Lonewolf, who makes the Buckbusters? And where can you get them?

A 3" cutting diameter is HUGE! You'd need some serious KE for that puppy. It may be alright for turkeys but I'd be really hesitant on using it for deer with that size cutting diameter.

2 of my buddys use them on deer out of their Excaliburs. They either drop very quickly or go a long , long way depending on what they hit on the way in. The blades are very flimsy and tend to bend badly. When they work they say the blood trail is incredible. I would not use them for deer. Turkeys might be another thing. Crap, now a third broadhead in the mix.

Hey Paul,

I'm not sure who makes the head, but I sent Norris' Bait and Tackle in Westport an email posing that question. It was at their booth where I saw them.

I know they aren't that great for deer as I was told the blades are a little on the flimsy side for deer, but for turkey they are suppose to be great. The guy showing them to me at the show said that he would not recommend them for deer, but for turkey they work great.

As soon as I get a reply from Norris' I will post it here.

Good luck to yas all! Ive been wanting to bow hunt for game for years but my problem is time to practise. I may be wrong as im not a bow hunter but i think practise practise is in order for this type of hunting. my excuse is always no time to practise but its probally more mismanegment of time. But still my hats of to yas that do!! :petasux:

These Tekan's are even better than I thought...I just found some replaceable blades to give them a 1.5" cutting diameter instead of the 1-5/16" I had before. Only 3/16" but every bit helps!

I don't have the KE to use this on a deer (at least I don't think I do) but they'll be killer on turkeys!

I'm gonna try to take both with my compund this year. I'll be using NAP Gobbler Getters. I don't think you can get a better broadhead for turkeys. If I am having trouble I may have to bring out the scattergun to paste one as a last resort!!!!! I hope I don;t have to.

I'm going to try for the first one with the shotgun, except for Sundays I'll be out with the bow, and if I get lucky with the shotgun I'll be switching stricty to the bow for the second one.
