Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a bowel movement by the clean end

Well here is the readers digest version of my very enjoyable morning turkey hunting.

I got up at 4am. I wanted to be at me hunting area before it got light out. I had not been able to scout out the evening before so I wanted to listen to where the turkeys were roosting. When I got to out of the truck, I was greeted with the most god awful racket I had ever heard down there. It sounded like coyotes howling and something else I had never heard before.

I waited till the darkness began to melt away and I started into the woods. At the first fence line where the wood lot begins, I tried my crow call, nothing! On I went, since I had not roosted any birds, I was unsure as to where to set up. I periodically tried the crow call; I was beginning to think this thing was a waste of money! Finally, I heard a faint gobble, which sounded very far away. So I heading in that direction, the tom(s?) was answering the crow call. I walked up the path, stopped, tried the crow call again, nothing, I begin walking then a bird flew from a tree about 30 yards from me. Talk about luck.

I got up to the edge of the property, the toms now were going crazy, gobbling there heads off, and they sounded like they were heading my way, when Boom! And not from my gun, then a little while after that Boom! Again, not from my gun, I did not even have shells in the gun yet!!

Disappointed, I got my deke and made my way back down the path I just came up. I was sure someone else was toting those gobblers home with big smiles on there faces. Anyway, there were some hens still around, making all kinds of noises! Then, what was that another gobble, either one of those guys missed, or I was still in business. I headed out to the field, I was unsure of where this bird was, since I heard him in a while. I headed to the corner of the field and popped through a wooded out crop, when I almost got busted, there were two birds just in the swale of the field, and I hoped there were some gobblers there as well. I quickly set up, with me facing north east, started calling first on the crystal, off goes a gobbler directly north of me, then after a little while another goes off when three crows fly overhead, caw, caw, caw, gobble! None of this was out in the swale though! A couple more tries of the crystal, a gobble goes off North West of my location! That bird is on the move and away from me, either the hens have their attention, or they don’t like my calling.

The something catches my eye to the east of me, those birds are sticking their heads up to have a look, and they are walking south and directly east of my location, probable 40-45 yards. When the first get to a cleared area in the field, I confirm him to be a Jake, but he is still 40-45 yards away and south-south-east of me. I try a yelp, go good, he keeps going. Then another pops out in the clearing in the field, I yelp, he turns, starts towards be, he can see the deke, but the gun is pointing north-east, not good I’m thinking. He is still walking towards me, I’m craning my neck. He turns around, I switch the guns direction. I use a Hunter-Specialties bi-pod, so the switch went easy. I decide I will take him, drew the sights in him, Boom! This time it was my gun, and this guy is flopping around.

And while walking out, that gobble that was heading east, flew up from about 30 yards from me. He walked past where I spooked that first bird earlier in the morning, and near where I was originally set up. Go figure!!

Stats:
Kill Time: Around 8AM

Beard: 100mm
Spurs: 5mm
Weight: 13-14 Lbs
Shot Distance: 28 Yards
