well my first turkey hunt went with no success.

friday mid morning i had 5 about 70 yrds out but none would commit. a couple hours later i had two jakes at 25 yrds but i spooked them and they put the turbo charges in gear...they never came out of some thick stuff and there was no chance for a shot. and the last bird i saw that day was a hen at about 20 yrds.

sat. i never actually saw any birds but had 1 gobbler come in behind me at about 30 yrds but he just wouldn't cross a page wire fence. he went up and down 3 times looking for an opening but then just gave up and vacated the area.

there were lots of birds around and i chalk up the lack of success to a lack of experience. don't think i'll be able to get out again this season due to a s#@t load of work that came in when i was away..............i'll just have to hone my skills for next year :D

congrat's to all who have been sucessful so far. i don't have time to read all the posts right now but i'll get to them.

Turkey hunting can be very unpredictable but one thing I have learned quickly and now so have you that it is very hard to get a Tom to jump a fence. You are best to risk detection yourself and get on the other side of the fence when he starts coming in than hope he jumps it. The season is pretty long so don't give up yet.

and that hunt you had sounds like a great success, nothing wrong with not connecting if you had them close and learned something for next time.
