Took my brother inlaw too Lebarons last Thursday night to pick up his new gun, Remington 870 fully rifled combo got him set up for turkey also. Plannned to take him out on Saturday morning. My borther-inlaw just got his hunting license last summer and took the turkey course two weekends ago. Slept in that morning a little but still made it to the area that I wanted to hunt by 6:10am got set up and had two different sets of birds gobbling by 6:30am. By 7am both sets are within 100 yards of us and closing. The first bird to reach us was a nice Tom that pulled up at 20 yards. I'd told my brother ilaw to hold off till the others caught up, what a mistake. the tom continue out of range and all of the rest of the birds were jakes, they must have caught some kind of movement as they all headed back they had just came from. We worked them for another two hours of cat and mouse before they wandered within 30 yards of us and my brother inlaw was able to get a shot off at one. He made his shot count and harvested his first bird. Not the tom but a nice jake, about 15 lbs with an 5 inch beard.

He was a very happy hunter after that, I think he is hooked for life now. Looking forward to sharing many more hunt with him in the future.

That is great to see that turkey hunting is acting as a gateway drug into the hunting pursuit...lol. Congratulations to you both! If I am not being to bold can I ask why you wanted to wait for the rest of the birds if you have a Tom at 20 yards?

Congrats on the great bird!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :allright:
Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a bowel movement by the clean end

Rene: I got greedy and thought that there might be another tom in the bunch for me and that we could pull a double. Also figure that the tom would come right in too the decoys. Nothing ever happens the way you hope that it will.
