Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a bowel movement by the clean end

Here is the story and pics. There is no pic of the fan as the bird was very wet and the fan did not look good. Saturday April 28th We had made plans to hunt Saturday morning and I could hardly wait, I hadn’t been out yet and really had the itch. I was to meet dobber and his son (dobber jr.) at 5:00am at the usual spot for the hunt. The weather was not the nicest as it was windy and rainy, you know that fine misty rain that soaks you to the skin, but there was no way I was going to let a little bad weather dampen my spirits. We met at our spot, dawned the rain gear, and decided where we were going to set up. Dobber and his son headed for a spot in the the cedars between two fields, it is a great spot, I would head to the opposite side of the property and setup in the cedars a hundred yards or so from some roasting trees. I got to my spot and started setting up, as I went to set up my jake decoy I found that the locking tab on the stake was broken, now what to do? I set it aside and pulled out the hen and I couldn’t believe it the locking tab on its stake was also broken, now I thought I was in trouble. I decided to set up the small blind; I realized the blind was held with two heavy elastics, which I used to hold the decoy stakes, man that was close. I was finally set up, I looked at my watch and it was 5:45 am, the sky was starting to show signs of light and I was waiting to hear the gobbling. The sky became brighter but no gobbling, I was confused. I started to do some soft calling on my Primos Butternut Jr. box call but no response, this was concerning. I waited for a while and called again to no avail. I continued to call every 10 minutes or so for a while but still no responses, I was losing faith. I decided to sit and watch the fields for a while to see if any birds might cross, sure enough at around 6:50 am I saw a bird crossing to the south of me. I set myself up and called on the box call, the bird stopped and looked my way, was it a tom, jake or a hen, I couldn’t tell. The bird started to come towards me at a slow pace so I hit the call again, a little louder this time. The bird started moving a little faster. Now there is a second bird, much smaller following the first one 20 yards behind it, the first bird looks like a male but I can’t see any beard yet just a really white head, it keeps coming now faster than before and is only a few yards from the decoys, I can now see a small beard, suddenly I hear a loud gobble coming from the field edge to my left and the next thing I know there is a turkey running flat out at my decoys, there is no mistaking this is a tom as I can easily see the beard as he runs. The jake stops dead as the tom runs in, he stops only feet from my jake decoy and goes into a strut. I already had the scope on him, as soon as he came out of his strut and stuck his head out I squeezed the trigger, the bird hit the ground and started flopping around. The jake started coming into the tom as he flopped around. I got up and headed out to retrieve my trophy and the jake and hen took off in flight for the safety of the bush. I called dobber to give him the news and made my way to where he and his son were sitting. What a great day. Taken with a Browning Gold shotgun, #4, 3” turkey rounds @ 30 yards Approximate weight – 18-20 lbs, 9” beard and 7/8” spurs. We went out again on Sunday to the same spots only this time I took my bow, well I ended up with 6 jakes in front of me, 5 of them at 12 yards and could not get a shot as they cam in on my right side and I could’nt get turned to shot. Next time will be different. ![]() ![]() |
