Headed up last night to my hunting area to have a look see as to what was still around. Seen a few hen and a couple of jakes. Got to the land I was going to hunt on and started across the field only to see an bird at the very top end in the corner. But the glasses on it to see if I could tell what it was couldn't for sure but beleive it to be a Jake or a Tom. Headed in that direction as it had walked out of the field in to the hardwoods. Once I got to the corner where I'd last seen the bird I gave a few crow calls too see if it would gobble, Nothing than some crows started calling back across the hardwoods in the next field that was enough to get the bird gobbling so off I headed again. I walked down over the hardwood knoll in to the bottom of the next field before I hen called, He answered right back I knew that this was a good sign. So I crawled to the top of the rise in the field to have alook I could see him out at about 80 yards gobbling his head off. Still could not tell what it was. After afew minutes he started in my direction thats when I realized that there was noway that I could let him walk off now as he was going to have to walk right over me to get to where he wanted to be. So, I had a hard decision to make educate this bird or kill it. The bird suddenly appeared 30 yards in front of me and my Remington 870 did the rest. It was 6:15pm that now is the latest that we have killed a bird. He weight 13 3/4 lbs on digital fishing scales and had a 4 1/2inch beard an just nubs for spurs. I'll add a pic later.

Right on man, least you got one! :allright:
Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a bowel movement by the clean end

Congratulations! Just a jake? Who really cares if it is a Tom or Jake. It is a great bird either way and will taste mighty fine! I don't pass on Jakes too often unless I'm pretty sure that I'm going to see plenty of birds the rest of the hunt.

That was the first jake in three seasons that we have shot. We usally let the jakes go and wait for the toms as there are always enough around. Two years ago we we never even shot a bird, Last year we shot four toms in three weeks of hunting. Now I'm going to try the bow I believe and see how that goes an nothing but a tom this time.
