I have an Owl that sits in the tree above my blind each morning. I know they use Owl calls as locaters, but is it because they are fightening the Turkeys??

From what I've been reading turkeys are not too fond of any of the birds of prey species.

Not too sure about owls, but know that hawks scare the heck out of them. Acouple of years ago had a tom and a jake coming to me across an open field when a hawk swooped in on them they were out of there in no time never found them again that day.

Owls prey on young turkey when they are poults...............I would assume the fear of them is ingrained from that point on ,even though I doubt an owl would try to kill an adult turkey.....................owl hooting as a locater causes them to shock gobble more than anything,I don't believe they are gobbling out of fear.

Thanks for the replies!!

Reason I am asking is that I was sitting in a blind last weekend and an Owl was perched in the tree above me both days. I wondered if this meant that for teh firsts few hours I would be euchred as to getting a gobbler to come into range.

I had about three distinct and different birds out about 50 or 60 yards, but they refused to come in. Didn't know if this meant they were maybe remembering teh owl from the AM.
