This is the first year that we have started to harvest any jakes on the land we hunt. Have shot two so far again only because one was shot by my brother inlaw as he just took up hunting this year and the other I harvested as I'd backed myself in to a corner. Was out Friday with my hunting partner and his nephew trying to get a bird. Found a couple of birds roost right over a road first thing in the morning, things never worked out as they had a hen with them. Went to another spot and had three different bunches of birds answer us when we called but nothing would come to the call except for two hens that crossed just to the north of us. Decided to head to another spot that we knew that had four toms, we let these birds go as jakes two years ago. On it every day but we'd left alone as no one else had permission to hunt near. Couldn't get anything to answer us and thought that was weird seen two hens while we were there. Left there and hunted the rest of the day with only afew sighting and gobbles in the disance. This past weekend we learned that three of the four gobbles that we'd been watching over the past years had been shot by other hunters. That a neighboring property owner had given them permisson to go in and shoot them as no one else hunted there even through he knew we were hunting there. These other hunters are from down south have have quite abit of land down there. The neighboring property owner as I understand it had given these guys permisson to hunt his land as these birds past through it every day also at daybreak. When the hunters started to hunt that morning they could hear them gobbling on the property to the north where they ended up shooting them. In the long run this just sickens me to think that we let these birds go and grow for the two years only to have them shot illegally from under our nose. Still I don't want to charge them as the neighborint property owner that crossed us is one of my dad's friends and it was his nephew and two friends that were the hunters and I don't want any hard feelings. Those birds in question all would tip the scales close to the 20lbs mark with 8-10 inch beards and as for the spurs what would a three year old have 1"? Sorry just venting alittle as been bugging me sense I found out Saturday night. Matt |

What is the matter with these guys, last week my dad was working on his second bird, he was gobbling his way right to him, when he heard something behind him and there was a guy sneaking through the bush trying to get close to this bird, again this guy was not suppose to be there, well did my dad ever lay into him, wasn't so much the trespassing but a safety issue as well. You have the right to vent, anyway goodluck on getting your next bird matt. |

i hear ya, the property we hunt is on a busy road and there are always people slowing down to watch the birds or deer in the field. I have been lucky so far, no sign of trespassers but its the first year. |

Too much of this going on... You have very good reason to be upset, MJ. You're not private anywhere, even if it is private property. |

We have to have someone drive by our gate almost every nite to make sure there is nobody in at our camp. It's getting brutal. And they do damage when they do get in. Rick |

Know how you feel. Other so called hunters drive by property that I hunt usually one or two days before the opener. Unfortunately the adjoining property owner lets just about everyone hunt and I don't think that they worry to much about fence lines. I just gave up and hunt a small property that I have to myself. I have taken one bird this year, but I am now seeing other hunters around the area and on neighboring properties so I don't know how long I will have this area to myself either. Trouble here too...... |

same problem here until one of our game cameras took their picture at 3:oo in the morning. they seen the flash and tried to take the camera but i had a safety cable on it. they have never come back again. one thing that really works well up here and guys are doing it more and more is this. post your land with the usual signs and then post signs that say'' THIS LAND IS BEING MONITERED BY WILDLIFE CAMERAS, ANYONE CAUGHT ON FILM WILL BE PROSECUTED TO THE FULL EXTENT OF THE LAW'' it seems to drive trespassers crazy as they never know when they could be on the next picture. you don't even have to have a camera on your land just post the signs and they usually won't chance it. |

I'm afraid to say this ,buit thias is part of hunting ,we hear about these type of thing's all the time ,and unfortunately there's really not much we can do about it unless we want to raise hell ,but in some cases when we do ,we end up burning our own bridge's . I think it's best just to move forward . I totally understand where your coming from . I have a piece of property that i don't hunt until the second week of turkey season ,because one of the nieghbor's let's a group hunt his property and I've found them hunting on our property and they don't have permission to be there . I've spoke with the owner and he doesn't seem to care ,so in this situation ,instead of causing hard feeling's ,I just stay away till the second week of turkey hunting . I have told these guy's on a couple occassion's that they're trespassing ,but season after season they keep returning .I don't feel it's worth the agrivation to harp at the owner ,because as I said he didn't seem to care whether they were hunting there ,so i just keep my mouth shut now. I'm sure if I was to keep whining about it ,I'd lose a real good hunting spot . I have alot of hunting properties and this one is one of my best and I really want this property for the deer hunting ,because it's crawling with deer .So keeping my mouth quiet mean's I'll be hunting there again . I'm sure I told you about this last winter Matt ,I know it really tick's you bud ,and I can't say that i blame you ,I just think sometime's it's just best to let it go. Save's agrivation on both side's. nubo |

Rick....If I where you's I would invest in a couple of signs that say " WARNING THIS PROPERTY IS PROTECTED BY GUARD DOGS ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK! " & if you know someone with a couple of guard dogs?, Ask them if they would mind if you could use them for a few days and keep them At the Hunt camp, then they might just get the hint and stay clear of your camp?.

nubo.....OMG Man I realize you don't want to make waves with the landowner but whats more important your safety as well As your hunting partners safety or a few Deer or Turkeys?, By the sounds of your post the landowner doesn't care about your safety or your concerns over the Trespasser's. Trespassing is just that Trespassing & they can be charged under the fish & Game act without a landowners permission form, Which by the way is the law & has been for quite a few years now & they must have one with them at all times while hunting on Privet Property or they can be charged with trespassing on Privet property plain & simple, If they don't have one with the landowners Permission in Writeing, Ask them nicely to leave the property and if they refuse take matter into your own hands and call the OPP & MNR and inform them as to what is going on and what actions you've taken, And have them removed from the property if at all possible?, If not for the landowner at least do it for your own peace of mind as well as your own safety. If you keep letting them walk all over you like that someone is going to get SHOT! & it could very well be YOU! one day, Thats a accident waiting to happen if you ask me. You've informed the landowner about your concerns & you've also confronted the Trespassers by asking them to leave, Then in that case if the landowner refuses to do anything about it, Then you have no other choice but to deal with it your self and take matters into your own hands by contacting the OPP & MNR about your concerns before someone gets SHOT!, Hunting land can be acquired & replaced your Life can NOT!. Do your self a favor, Download the Landowners permission form from the MNR's website, & Take it over to the Landowner and have the Landowner fill it out for you & have him sign it and carry it with you. That way if you ever do have to Call the OPP & MNR at least you have proof you have his permission to hunt there & they don't. And if the Landowner still refuses to do anything about the Trespassers, & refuses to fill out the Landowners Permission Form? Then in that case if I where you?, I would thank him for allowing you to hunt on his property & I would be looking for another place to hunt cause it's just not worth getting SHOT and possibly lousing your Life over. This has nothing to do with making Waves, Burning Bridges or causing problems with or for the Landowner, But it has everything to do with Respect, Common courtesy,Common Sence, Hunting Ethics & Your Rights & Responsibilities as a hunter, As well as a Hunting Safety issue. As far as I'm concerned a Hunter that trespasses, Knowing full well it's Privet property & there are other Hunters in that area is Just like A poacher in my books, They Sneak in Shoot their game & sneak Out with that Game the same way a Poacher does!, And as such should be treated and charged with trespassing, As well as poaching & careless use of a firearm, Knowing full well there are other Hunters Hunting in that area, That could be accidentally shot when it comes to hunting without permission on Privet property, & That they have no business in the first place being on during Hunting season!!. Lets just hope for your sake you - your hunting Buddies or anyone else for that matter never gets SHOT or SHOT AT on this guys Property, All because you decided not to say something & kept your mouth shut for fear you would louse your REALLY GOOD Deer & turkey hunting spots within this guys Property!! No offense or Disrespect meant here nubo but if you don't nip it a the bud now before it gets too far out off hand, Someone could end up getting Shot & that someone could very well be you? or one of your Friends?, Then your going to be wishing you had done & said something about it, But by then it's to late to do or say anything about it As the damage has already been done by then, & Someone has ether been seriously injured or Killed because of it. But then again I'm Not You, & I'm not the one that would have to explain to my friends Parents & family as to why their son or daughter had been Shot or killed, And have To live with that guilt for the rest of my life ether, Knowing full well I could have done something about it but didn't?. |

I doubt that either the OPP or MNR would even respond to a call if its not made by the landowner. Basically what this landowner is doing is allowing people to hunt his property by not intervening. I can see why Nubo is just keeping the landowner happy by not constantly harassing him and maybe looking greedy in the process. He's protecting his own legal right to hunt that farm thats all. You make perfectly valid points yourself, no diputing that but sometimes a situation can be adressed more than one way. this farm is not posted at all and the landowner really doesn't care or want to be bothered, unfortunately. |
