I voted with my first bird since you're only allowed to vote once. My first bird was shot at 3pm and second bird shot at 6:30am. I agree this is a really good post. The one thing that is going to seriously skew the results though is the amount of time spent hunting during those hours. For example, 90% of hunters (this is just a guess) hunt during the morning hours thus the number of morning kills should be way higher than afternoon. |

I agree with paul on this one but very good post. I talk to an old timer who has been turkeys hunting for years and he packs it in by 10:00 am and since no one has voted in that area I can see why

I agree with what Paul is saying but what is also interesting is that even with most hunters concentrating on sun up, over 37% of birds are taken from 12.00 noon on. Factor the percentage of hunters still hunting later in the day and it almost looks like the latter part of the day is as if not more productive? Then again this isn't exactly a large sample size to make very many deductions but still interesting. |

Voted 10-12. The entire day is productive. I can't even pinpoint what time of day is best in my experience. Mornings are fun though. Hearing those soft yelps and gobbles around flydown is priceless. :archer: |

Good point Terry. You're right about the sample size too but it's fun just to see I guess. I personally find that the amount of gobbling is obviously greater in the morning, thus it gets you more fired up, but the chance for success is far greater in the late morning/afternoon hours because birds are more often alone and willing to commit. So the number of guys working birds in the morning is likely really high, but success is much lower...whereas in the afternoons, the number of guys working birds is lower with the success being much higher. Just my opinion based on my own experiences. |

i agree with paul. i was just adding up my birds over the years and looking at my journal. i have taken over 20 birds and 80 percent of them were taken after 8:00. i'd rather hunt late morning and afternoon but your right it sure is fun hearing them in the mornings all fired up. the earliest i've ever shot one was this mornings at 7:00am and its pretty light out around here by 5:00. been hearing alot of gobbling at daybreak but he was the only one still gobbling at 7:00. he was all alone and came to the call like right now.those late morning birds are definately easier to call but harder to locate. hens are definately on the nests in wisconsin. |

Well, over 41% of birds harvested after noon with more success later in the day based on the answers above. Factor in the likely lower numbers of hunters in the pm and I would say that its every bit as good in the later afternoon. Guess I need to start paying more attention to afternon hunting! |

Took one so far at 7:10 am, but that is only becuase I can't hunt later in the day. Took two last year, same thing, 6:10 am and 6:20am. |
