This morning the Tom we were after was a ways away but a buch of birds landed out in front of us anyways. I thought we should see what they were first before we decided to move on that Tom. Well 2 birds broke off and they looked like jake's and my buddy is new to the turkey hunt so I thought that these would be great birds to cut his teeth on. I assured him that they had beards and after he finally noticed it I gave him the ok to take one. I was filming it all so I was inbetween calling and filming. Finally he took the shot and the bird dropped like a ton of ^&#%^& so we walked over to it and he looked at me kind of funny and when I asked him what was a matter he told me he thought that he got a hen. Well then panic initial struck me but I was so sure that I seen a beard so I was like NO NO NO NO it has to be a jake
Sure enough it was a hen with a 3 3/4 inch beard.
Awesome hunt but I was just a little freaked out that we harvested a hen.
Ohh well it was a great experience for him and it kind of was a weird one for me.

Shooting a bearded hen is like jigging for lakers threw the ice and then snagging it by the tail. It happens. Congrates on the harvest. A bearded hen or a bearded women it just doesn't seem right.
