First off congrats to everyone tagging birds some great birds. I just haven't had time to reply to everyones posts. Things have been very busy around here with the new baby, working 60 hours a week, and trying to tag a bird with my bow before work. I've only been checking in here and there. The first 2 weeks of this season have been the best hunting I've ever had. I've had birds inside of 50 yards almost every time I've been out. I've had them come in from behind. I've had them come to the field edge just out of my shooting window. I've had them hold up just out of bow range. I've had them walk through saplings not able to put an arrow through. I 've had them come everywhich way you can imagine just not where I need them to be for a shot I wanted to take. I've had every imaginable combination of decoys, no decoys, I've hunted the woods, the field edge, I even put my blind in the middle of the field. When I was in the middle of the field I had 2 toms and 5 hens inside of 50 yards but they wouldn't come to my dekes. I So after so many close calls and feeling the pressure, I put the bow down and brought out the trusty 870 for a couple mornings this week before work. Tuesday I called 2 longbeards into 50 yards on an open hardwood ridge without a decoy. They hung up not seeing a decoy on the open ridge. I went back Firday and had the same 2 hang up on the opposite side of the ravine about 50 yards away at about 6:15. I played hard to get only giving them a cluck here every few minutes. Finally at 6:55 they couldn't take it and crossed the ravive to come over to see me. I was 5 yards in the bush from the field edge with no deke. They came through some thick stuff to my left and I took the first one to give me a shot at about 17 yards as I knew both were good birds so I wasn't going to be picky. He was about 19lbs (on my fish scale) has a thick rope measuring 10 3/4in and nice 1 1/4 matching spurs. ![]() ![]() ![]() Here's where I am not sure about the beard. I think its just split in 2 but one of my friends thinks it could be a double. ![]() ![]() I never measured the 2 separately. What do you guys think??? Gooder |

I would say from the pics. it appears to be a double beard.........if where it attaches to the beast is separate then it would be two.............Congrats on a fine gobbler! |

https://sites.google.com/view/north-river-outfitters/home You're not paying for a stay at the Hilton, you're paying to participate in nature. Anything can happen. I work part time so I can hunt full time YOU'LL NEVER SHOOT THE BIG ONE IF YOU SHOOT THE SMALL ONE FIRST | |
