Hey Kit. You can do it all yourself rather easily. You can cut the legs off the bird at the joint, cut the beard once you pull away the skin where the beard is attached and the fan, a little trickier you cut just above the anus of the bird. Basically grasp the entire fan and cut away the amount of the tail you want. Err to the side of too much. You will have to trim away some fat later and place the fan the way you want on cardboard. You can store all part in a freezer so that you can do your preparations for mounting later. Borax is your friend...(: Good sight that should have all the information you need: http://www.nwtf.org/hunting_tactics.html Look under preserving your trophy and cleaning and cooking your bird....hope that helps! Congratulations!!

Nothing else required? The pads on the feet seem pretty fleshy, they won't turn stinky? |

Just let them dry partikle, the feet and legs are all mostly tendons, they will go rock hard with no smell. |

I usually cut the legs at the joint for transport and put in freezer. I cut them close to the spurs later for a necklace. I've seen some keep the feet together up to the joint and mount on plaque. Looks cool. Seen many variations of displaying your trophy. Some put beards in empty shotgun casings...the metal part. I've heard for long term preservation of the legs and feet to drill out tendons and put in borax. But I've seen others not do this with good results. |
