yep, on the ground. Often in tall grass like hay fields, fallow fields, fence lines etc.

Ever find a nest with eggs? Is the hen very territorial? How many eggs do they usually have?

We went for a late morning hunt and were on are way and Coug08 was ahead of me, I followed where he went and stopped for a second and when I looked down there was a hen right at my feet, so I told Coug08 you have got to see this there is a hen right at my feet, I am surprised you didn't step on it. Well we carried on, no luck by the way, and on the way back I circled around where she was to go get my camera from the truck.
