Well I arrived at Adrian's around 4:30am and we headed out to a private lease he has. We got set up on a roosted bird and sure enough he started gobbling and getting my adrenalin going. My season so far has been pretty uneventful bird wise and i'm not able to hunt as often as previous years due to me starting work at 5am now. Anyway, this bird answered Adrian's calls a few times then clammed up...nothing...nada, but a bird in the distance was firing back at everyone of Adrian's calls so we decided it was time to make the move. We moved toward this more vocal bird and got set up but after about 10 minutes we decided we were still too far away so we moved again. Adrian informed me that these birds have been hunted and that one in particular has been shot at 3 times with misses each time so needless to say, I was praying I wouldn't be miss number 4! We got in closer and got set up and this old tom fired back at Adrian's calls and there was a hen nearby and her call was so close to Adrian's call, they could have been sisters. Well we figured the bird would be coming in to my right so I got turned a bit and wouldn't you know it, he comes in from the left...Adrian spotted him first and I couldn't see him at all so Adrian is whispering to me to turn to the left so I start turning and still can't see him. Adrian tells me to stop, he's right out in front of me, but all I can see is the biggest darn bush in the woods! Well Adrian does a very quick cluck and purr and Mr. Tom fires right back at him and I could feel him gobbling, he was so close! Finally I see him fan, but that is all I see is his fan, i'm waiting for him to stretch his neck for a look see but no such luck. He is in front of me for a good 10 minutes fanning and gobbling and wouldn't you know it, another bird comes strutting in, this time a jake and then a hen joins the party. Well by this time, Adrian tells me later, he is crapping his drawers, wondering why I haven't dropped Mr. Tom yet! I still haven't seen his head and I hear Adrian behind me say shoot and just as he says that Mr. Tom gives me a look at his bright red head and I drop him in his tracks with a load of Winchester Supreme #6's at 15 yards! The other 2 birds take flight and to be honest, I thought for sure I had missed but Adrian is yelling behind me, you got him, you got him!!!! Well I stand up and sure enough, behind that bush is laying Mr.Tom!!! A side note to this story is I drew blood form him and me!! Yeah I got kissed in the beak with my scope and had a river of blood running down my nose but Mr. Tom was hurting a lot more than I was. At about 7:05am I [put my tag on my first Tom of the season and I want to give a big thanks to Adrian for inviting me out to hunt with him! 17.5 lbs 3/4" spurs 9.5" beard ![]()

That's awesome! Congratulations. Yes, the grins in the pictures really do say it all. Adrian is really bad medicine for turkeys. Turkeys should when he is in the woods....lol. Great story and pictures!

Great stuff guys! Congrats Mike. |
Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a bowel movement by the clean end
