Fall hunt

They are talking on the local radio station of the possibility of a fall hunt in huron. This gives me mixed feelings. Sure the #'s are getting high and the farmers are pushing BUT.
Archery deer season goes from the beginning of October to the end of December. there is two interuptions now that help to keep the deer nocturnal during that period(14 days of controlled hunt). Now people will be running around shooting guns for almost the whole season. Boo!
It would be great to be able to shoot another turkey or two but if I have to choose fall is for huntin deer.
Imagine, here he comes, the buck of your dreams coming right to your stand and boom somebody shoots a turkey. Bye bye dream buck!

If they do open it up in the fall I hope the make it so that bowseason for deer you have to use a bow for turkey, and the same for the gun hunts. I know that in wmu's with rifle season it will be senseless to shoot a bird with high powered rifle, but in the wmu's with controlled hunts (shotgun) it could work.

Yah, I know what you mean. Ever since I heard they'd open a fall season, the first thing I though of was deer.

It might be a good idea in my mind. It would be a way to sell more liscences, to bring the trukey population under control and might help promote the spring hunt. A two week hunt that can coexist with the shotgun hunt wont make anymore noise.
There is no such thing as bad venison, its just some is better then others.

I think that would be a great idea. The more opportunities we get the better. Seems to be a lot everywhere. :allright:

I don't know about that. I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable or safe in the bush with
full camo on while others are out shooting deer with shotguns and/or black powder.
I'm all for a fall season but when do you run it safely and without disrupting the
archery season?

You can bet if it's during a firearm season organge clothing will be involved somehow.
It's not going to be like spring time where you walk around yelping and expect turkeys to respond and come in to your setup. sure this tactic might work at times, but it's a totally different bird in the fall.
You probably have just as good of a chance buying the tag and shooting one from your deer stand, while deer hunting.

Problem with running it with the gun season is that you can't shoot them with slugs or buckshot and I'm pretty sure they aren't gonna wait for you to change shells. :run!!:
