Just curious being from Wi. our turkey populations are relatively young , our first modern season was opened in 1984, so i am curious how long you have had a season where you hunt? I know most Canadian provinces do not have hunt able populations of turkeys so where do you hunt and how long have you had a season???

I'm hoping this spring will be my first season for turkeys, took the course last spring but couldn't make it out there. I have to travel 7 hours south to hunt them on a lot that my uncle owns in SE ontario. As far as how long turkey season has been openned, I can't really remember tho I should cause it was mentionned in the course. :D

It took the course two years ago and have filled my quota both years. They first stared showing up on our farm about 8 years ago. I got a box call that christmas and have guided several of the guys to birds on our farm. They are good eating but there are very few turkey hunters in my area so we are over run. I think in my area it has been run for about 12 years
There is no such thing as bad venison, its just some is better then others.

All my life. Started snaring rabbits and shooting grouse real young with Dad and Grandpa. I got into migratory game when I was 10-11. I didn't hunt for big game until about 1999. A bit of passive moose hunting. In 2000 did some hunting for a few days with a few friends around Thunder Bay for deer and a bit more moose hunting. Started fishing more then too. I quit golfing around that time....lol. After I harvested my first buck in 2001 I've been a total big game junkie..... :readytorock:

lol....turkey hunting started in 2005. Here I am going on about big game...

Not sure how long it's been opened in my area, but my father and I took the course in March 2002, then I hunted my place that spring and got myself a jake with the crossbow on the powerline. I didn't hunt the 2003 season, and hunted my property maybe 3 times in 2004 without success (not many turkeys on my property). Then in spring 2005 my father and I went out on opening morning and I shot a jake with the crossbow and he shot his jake with the shotgun not even a minute after I shot mine. We were together in the same blind.

Ahh Fenelon Falls, lived there for many years, heck i remember when the canadian tire was on the corner of the locks, old wooden floors upstairs.

My first bird was 2001 in Rosedale just north of Fenelon, had a few since then, last year was the first i didn;t tag but having to share with my son was good enough, he will be using his own tags this year.

I've had my license for three years but never got out until last year. Hunted two great weekends with my brother and father...Saw many birds...but never got close enough for a shot. I managed to call a tom out and have him run toward me but he was intercepted by some real hens behind me and off to my right. He may not be that lucky this year. So there ya go, there's the deal with my turkey experience so far...Still a rookie ;)

Interesting.........seems the average is about 5 seasons or so......................one question, I have seen mention of taking the"class" what exactly are you refering to an identification or certification class???????

Here we are required to be at least 12 years of age and persons born after 1973 must have passed a hunter's safety course.

I first hunted turkeys back in 1988 but at that time we didn't have very many in our area, I hunted for a couple of days during the season and never heard a gobble.........didn't go back to turkeys until '96 when I killed my first gobbler a nice triple bearded 3 year old...........since that day I was hooked and have killed a good number of birds (last count I think was in the 30's including fall birds) ..................a few pics. from seasons past:

Yes here in Ontario you have got to pass and turkey hunting course before you can hunt them. Just another way for our gov. to suck more money out of us.

Looks as there might be afew birds around your area now, as for a tom with multiple beards I only ever seen a double bearded tom and he wasn't close enough to shoot. Other that that I've only heard of birds with up to 5 beards never 8 must be something to see.

Got any pics? Would love to see that one.
