Any opinions on a gun like this for me? I'm not a big guns kinda guy so thought this would be a good alternative for turkeys. I could care less that it was a youth gun, I don't really see any benefits to getting a big hoss of a gun, it's not really my style. Could I put slugs though this for deer as well? What else would the gun be good for? Anyone thing I should get something different? It's on sale now at BPS but it's only $30 off. |

nothing wrong with that gun at all, might be able to buy slug chokes or even a seperate barrel for it. Getting what you would call a big hoss of a gun for yourself doesn;t sound right because by the sounds of it you are smaller in stature so a shorter reach would be in order. Call em in close and you can kill them with a .410 if it was legal Try the youth 870 with the combo barrel as well, a great gun and all the accuracy you will need from a slug gun. Buying something too big would be like you shooting a bow with a 30" draw, or me trying to shoot a 27" draw, the weapon just won't fit so use what fits and good luck with the choice. Not sure but i think Ontario's own turkey guru Adrain O'Haire shoots a 20 gauge and he has slayed loads |

Yup he does use a 20 Ga...I've shot a 12 and I wasn't all that big on it. I'm a bowhunter by nature and the loud noise it makes isn't my ticket lol. I don't care about reach either...not much hunting if you're shooting right out there. Thanks, I'll have a peak around and see. I didn't even think about the barrel  I guess I'd be looking for a combo, deer, turkey in 20 Ga...Deer to about 50 yards is fine and turkeys 25-30 yards or so is also fine. |

The 20 gauge is fine to use for turkeys. If it was me and i had some money to paly with it would be an Remington 11-87 in 20. You can get a rifled slug barrel to go with it and using sabot slugs it will do the same job as a 12 will just it will reduce your range slightly. The remington 870 youth combo is about $537 at lebarons thats with a 20 inch riflesighted fully rifled barrel and a 26" Modified choke(interchangable). It would be good to get that way you can put a saddle scope mount on it and use it as a turkey gun and then change the barrel and your good for deer out to a hundred yards. Just my 2cents. My first bird was with a 20guage at 35 yards. Dennis |

The 20 guage will do the job if you do yours. You do give up some range though but if that doesn't bother you go for it. As for it being a youth gun, more people would use them if they ever actually picked one up. Slightly shorter length of pull which actually usually helps when all crouched up while bird hunting. Good gun, good deal. It would also make a mean little rabbit gun for long days in the field. |

Mossberg guns are real nice for the price. As for the 20ga for turkey with the right load and choke combination it will kill a turkey as far as an 12ga you just don't have as many pellet flying through the air. The Remington 870 Express combo is another choice you have as it is also advailable in 20ga at Lebarons for $536.94. Either one are great guns and will get the job done. Matt |

I use a Remington 870 in 20 gage in my home state of Mass and my brother does as well. We've killed every deer we have shot at with it with no problems. I haven't ever used it for turkey as I have my old deer shotgun (another 870 but in 12 gage) set-up for turkeys, but I am sure it would do the job. |
