I wait until the winter flocks break up. The closer to season you scout is usually better. In my experience it is very deceiving to scout before Spring is upon us as these birds will move long distances to their breeding areas after Spring breakup. Very similar to our deer yarding up for the winter. Most of the deer won't be there come fall when you hunt them . GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!

i would agree, where the birds are now, normally isn;t where they will be in April. I have hunted the same spot for a few years so i don't need to go out and scout, i know where they will be (general area) and if they aren;t there today they will be there tomorrow.
Its always nice to go out and look for sheds though, or take the gun for yotes and while out just check on the birds.
If you know the birds are in the general area the best time to scout is the night before the hunt, see where they roost.

I wait until the week before.

There was a good topic about this not too long ago. Maybe it should be resurrected.

I agree, I had a look back but couldn't find the topic from last year.

Good question. If you look in this forum you will see a scouting article and a hunting primer. I'd put the links in but they are under my name right in this thread. Good luck turkey hunting this year. Generally any information you gather immediately before the season is going to much more valuable than information on pattern and movements a month before.
