Do they prefer a particular species of tree to roost in?
Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a bowel movement by the clean end

Usually large mature hardwoods with horizontal branches close to water and a fly down area.

What about coniferous tress?

Here they are all about big hemlocks which goes along with the horizontal branch theory.

Here is what I have noticed

I think the proximity to a strutting area is their first choise.

Second, they like to be hit with the morning sun.

Bad weather, you'll find em closer to the groung and in thicker trees.

A south east facing slope next to a strutting zone is prime because:

1 The hill behind them blocks the prevailing wind/weather
2 They get the morning sun
3 Of course - close to the strut zone

MOST IMPORTANT ONE - Gota have some hens around

Mastercaster is right! i like his theory on the Strut Zone., but i will add to the HEN idea.

Gobblers dont dictate where the group of birds go, hens do and gobblers will go to where hens frequent. And keeping this in mind, mature hens have one thing on there mind....being bred and eating. So another very imporatant thing to keep in mind is birds will roost close to high energy, high protein food sources so the hens will have the neccesary nutrition in order to develop strong eggs.

I also seen birds roosting in mature large tooth aspen trees.

ITS FUNNY HOW A BIRD WITH A BRAIN THE SIZE OF A PEA, CONTINUES TO OUT SMART ME TIME AND TIME AGAIN!...I LOVE SPRING GOBBLERS.
