The following changes are proposed.

1. Amending Part VI of Ontario Regulation (O. Reg.) 665/98 (Hunting) to allow for implementation of a fall wild turkey hunting season in Ontario beginning in fall 2008 by creating/amending the following regulations:

Bag limit: 1 turkey of either-sex (i.e., male or female)
Licence requirements: a fall wild turkey licence plus a small game licence
Firearms: same as for spring turkey hunting
Hunting hours: standard hunting hours, 1/2 hour before sunrise to 1/2 hour after sunset
Harvest reporting: mandatory to report turkeys harvested in fall by telephone or as otherwise prescribed on the licence
Bait prohibition regulation so that Wild turkeys cannot be harvested over bait
2. Amending Table 7 of O. Reg. 670/98 (Open Seasons – Wildlife) to add the following Wildlife Management Units (WMU) to be opened for fall hunting: Season dates: approximately a 2 week season (from the Monday next following the 17th of October until the Sunday immediately preceding the first Monday in November)

WMU 64 in Kemptville District
WMU 67 in Kemptville and Peterborough Districts
WMU 68 in Peterborough District
WMU 73 in Peterborough and Aurora Districts
WMUs 76, 77, 81, 82 and 84 in Midhurst District
WMU 78 in Aurora District
WMU 89 in Guelph District
WMUs 90, 92, and 93 in Aylmer District
3. Creating additional spring wild turkey hunting seasons, beginning in 2008, by adding the following WMUs, to the spring wild turkey hunting season provided for in Table 7 of O. Reg. 670/98 (Open Seasons – Wildlife):

WMU 45 in Sault Ste Marie District

I guess they will be running the fall hunt along with the opening of the archery season for deer. Should be a little more dangerous in the woods this fall. i think I am going to start wearing an orange vest in and out of my stands. I was thinking about doing it anyway but this , if passed, will clinch it. I think it's a good thing if the population can sustain it.

Me too! That's great news, even if it is just a proposal.

Would love to see WMU 56 open as it will open up some new areas for myself and others to hunt.

I can't re submit a comment. maybe it's because it's past the cut off date. Don't know! I really don't think they do either. :bang:

Hey Ian have you ever tried to draw on a turkey from a tree stand? I tried it last year when they were about 80yrds to see if i could. :run!!: I have many friend that say they could have shot a few birds from their stands but they never drew on them. Good luck to anyone that thinks their going to harvest a turkey from their tree stand with a bow. I think a few guys will get them with X bows but we would have better luck from a ground blind. Turkeys seem to keep a eye out for owls and redtails.
It will be interesting to see how many get harvested.
