Yup they sure are seen three toms in the field beside my house on Saturday during a huge blizzard. Tried to take a pic but the snow was coming down so hard couldn't see them through the camera. My daughter and I put on our snow camel and snuck across the field to get closer to them, we did get some pics but there not the greatest. The turkeys finally noticed us and flew back into the woods. Still learning the computer, when my daughter wakes up ( March Break ) I'll get her to help me post the pics. Hopefully she didn't erase them off her camera. |

we are now in the traditional breeding season. Probably not going to have receptive hens for awhile yet with the late deep snow but the gobblers sure aren't going to assume that and will start showing and gobbling for sure. I wouldn't pressure birds to get a pic. Energy it takes them just to get around these days they don't need to be taking off and fleeing from predators IMO. |

That's my guess more so then trying to breed or impress hens. Birds have pecking orders and they work on them all year long by displaying to other male birds. Why do grouse drum all year long....to protect their territories. Why do birds sing in the morning, to protect their territories. They sing even more during dawn and dusk because it's the best time to get food and therefore also the best time to show off how strong and fit they are. Plenty of studies to show this. |

Last Oct. while deer hunting I watched 6-8 toms strutting and I have also seen them in late March strutting, so this really isn't a surprise to me. It won't be long |

Yep...I've been watching them strut at work in the morning...just off the parking lot... Safest turkeys in the world...within city limits and a gunshot going off around there would certainly cause chaos. And someone must have been feeding them...because they seem to have no fear of humans. A bunch of the ladies at work are afraid to get out of their cars if they're around. |

DirtyGun you said a gun shot would cause chaos, what about an arrow. I think they could cause some of those ladies trouble and make them late for work the toms might just have to be removed!! Haven't seen to many birds as of lately but there has only been one flock of toms that I've seen. There were five in it all with nice looking beards and big bodys. Can't wait for some more snow to go so I can start shooting the bow and preping for the season, got to pick up some new calls this year. And start with the decoy as I haven't even took the time to cut the foam yet. Matt |

Unfortunately, it'd still be discharging a firearm or bow within city limits...which is against the law. ...it'd take guts to break the law right behind a building that contains those who enforce it.

Hey...I wish I could fill two tags by just showing up to work in the morning and picking them off in the parking lot, but it's not going to happen. They'll just be there to mock me when I don't see them elsewhere. I should have had a camera on me today. Twenty of them walked right past my office window, right in front of the main building, with not a care in the world (people were walking towards the entrance amongst them). That's what you get when you have people feeding them...wild (domestic) turkeys that are protected where they are and will flourish because of itl If you see me with a turkey in a picture this year...I didn't hit it with my bumper...honest.

came to work yesterday here in downtown Fort Worth... A beautiful hen was out in the courtyard chirping... Have no idea where she came from, but she was confused and kept seeing her reflection in the glass.. She was trying to get inside.. Some girls had their cameras, and I asked them to email me a copy of the pics. I guess i gave them the wrong email address... |
