A few years ago when they re-introduced turkeys back into Ontario, was there absolutley no birds in the province at all? What was the cause of them becomming extinct, over-hunted maybe? (Like Elk?) |
Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a bowel movement by the clean end

It was mostly market hunting that wiped them out. Packs of greedy settlers not knowing any better, and the(destruction of habitat) vast growth of cities, towns, farms, roads etc. the list is endless. |

Prior to European arrival to North Americam wild Turkey was quite common in Eastern North America.... settlement caused massive habitat loss, combined with hunting of the birds, wild Turkey became extinct in Southern Ontario by the early 1900s. http://www.nwtf.org/conservation/bulletins/bulletin_14.pdf Another good read! |

My understanding is that the fall hunt will be in WMUs that the MNR has recieved numerous complaints from farmers about crop damage . ie : a guy I knew lived west of London , he was talking to a berry farmer , farmer said at first it was nice to see them , but now shoot EVER fn one you see they are costing me TOO much in lost crop . So, would it not be better to gain some revenue while at the same time not wasteing any birds that might happen in an pest licenced kill ( can't remember proper name of it ) . Does the MNR still compensate farmers for lost crops , if so , then that money would be saved as well . AND THE BEST is , you got your foot in the door on maybe some new hunting land . |
