Whats the difference between say a $10 mouth call vs a $40 mouth call, same for box calls, slate calls, stc. Just wondering is it worth spending more money on the high price caller? Just wondering because I have talk to a few turkey hunters who have shot some nice toms and they were not using the expensive callers, wondering if anyone thinks there is a difference. Thanks to those that respond

without a doubt....the quality of sound will be effected trying to cheap out on a lesser value call....i find this especially true with diaphragm calls. |

Not sure about the mouth calls, but I think there is a difference between the cheaper box/pot calls and the more expensive ones. I just bought my first pot call from Gobblestalker, it wasn't a lot more money than the ones you see in Canadian Tire, but its hand made. And it sounds amazing. |

I hope you don't pay $40.00 for a mouth call, Please don't ! I know all about them and $8.00 would be Max. As for the rest of the calls on the market, the difference is the material and time put into the calls that create the price difference. Most times quality wood calls can jump up in a number of dollars. Plastic is always a cheap product material that can reduce the price of a call into a price bracket for some. Do you get what you pay for? Yes very much so but you also can only make a call so good. Will cheaper products kill birds? Yes, when it comes to turkey every voice or pitch can work for the hunter. Calls are a lot like musical instruments, when it involves quality wood, you as a general rules get quality sound in the call... Good question ... |

yup i agree with the less than $10 mouth calls, i use the green quaker boy mouth calls, as for the rest well it depends on the wood and who is making them. I bought 3 different box calls on ebay, each made with a different wood and each having a different sound and am sure all will work in the right circumstance. Just picked up a hand made call down in the States, came with slate on one side and glass on the other (2 calls in 1, just flip it upside down), it sounds great, comes with a hickory, glass and laminated striker, a mouth call and a crow call, all for $25. Haven;t tried the mouth call yet but the rest sounds good enough to take in the field. Just need to find a few more pockets

I favour Primos for all my calls. I have 4 Primos mouth calls and the Primos "Wet Box" box call. |
