I volunteered to video a Wi. youth hunt this weekend and dispite bad weather yesterday we managed to put a good longbeard on the ground yesterday afternoon.

So here's the story:
We got out and set up on a farm with a big marsh and timber islands that ran the perimeter of the property. Just after daylight the woods lit up with gobbling, which was an excellent sign considering it was snow/raining on and off all morning. just after flydown the hens started to crank up,5 or 6 in all that started talking, Dan (mentor) tried getting under their skin, but they sounded as though they were going away from us. After an hour or so we spotted a black dot about 500 yards out slowly moving towards us,suddenly another black dot from the right comes running at the first one, he starts running in our direction, perfect! They closed the distance to around 150 yards and turned out to be a jake and mature gobbler, the jake split off and headed back to where they came from, the gobbler hung up on a fenceline to our left. He was being teased by hen calling from across the property line, so we stepped it up a notch and gobbled at him, that got him to gobble a response and he committed to coming in, flying across two drainage ditches in the process! When he closed to about 35 yards Austin our youth hunter was giving the green light and touched off the 3.5 Winchester load, the bird was in the air in blink of an eye,he had missed............................but was not dejected and kept a good natured attitude about the situation. We decided it best to do some scouting and checked out a few other properties, after walking a lot of land, we ended up back on the same farm he had set up on in the morning................at around 4:00 with the wind spitting snow on us, Austin peeked out the window of the blind and whispered 4 birds headed our way! Sure enough a hen , jake, and 2 gobblers were easing into our set up! I got the camera rolling and Austin took a bead on the lead bird, some soft yelping from Dan got the gobbler to stretch his head up and once again that day the 12 ga. roared only this time the bird flopped backwards and proceeded to do the death flop!!!!!!!!! Whoo hoo! Austin had finally killed his first gobbler and we captured it all on tape for him to re-live forever!
I can't tell you how happy we all are for Austin and grateful to Tom's guns in Marshall for putting the hunt together, although the weather was less than perfect we had an excellent hunt! I look forward to going out again next year and hopefully having as much fun and success as we did this year.

Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a bowel movement by the clean end
