Turkey Question; I have never had the chance

I am likely going to ask a stupid question - but I have never had the chance to hunt turkey .
My question is are they good to eat ? How would they compare to say a free range farm turkey ?
Most stories I read folk's talk about beard length and spurs but never say how it was in the chewing department with the cranberries and mashed potato's and gravey .
Its a honest question .
Have a great day!

I have heard mixed opinions on them. But, I guess it's all based on how you cook them. I haven't tried a wild turkey yet...Hopefully this year.

wild turkey breast is some of the best eatin you will ever have, the rest is a bit chewy and needs to be cooked differently, slow cooking, stews or soups.
lightly breaded in corn flour fried in butter, or hmm wait for it, save them breasts and see the recipes in the next newsletter :D

Great Newfie Hunter

Well with me being a newfie Im going to be having what we call jigs dinner in Newfoundland..Put that turkey in the oven with stuffing inside, cook up that salt beef, cabbage, carrots and potatoes and have a few pops while waiting for her to cook.
Unless this of course it is a big beauty tom, well it might look nice stuffed and sitting in my rec-room in my basement.

And apparantly they are all dark meat too.
Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a bowel movement by the clean end

The best way that I have found to cook them is on the BBQ. Wrap the whole bird in tin foil and let it cook for a few hours on the BBQ. The tin foil helps keep all the juice in the bird so that it stays moist, careful not to over cook it or it be so tough you wouldn't be able to eat it.

They are very good in a turkey cooker(deep fryer). If I remember it only takes 3 minutes per pound after you dunk it a 1/3 , let the temp come back up then dunk it 2/3 let the temp return, then put the whole turkey in and let it cook. Juicey, and golden brown.

Take it from my 8 and 10 year old girls, who after eating my first turkey, said:
"It tastes just like turkey!"

Wild turkey is very tasty. It does take a good recipe to make it. Just dont over cook it whether you bbq or deep fry. Not near as much fat on a wild bird compared to a domestic.

Dobber nailed it . The breast is tender but can be dry if cooked too much. The legs and thighs are tough and require long slow cooking or it can be ground up and makes excellent burger.

I love eating wild turkey. The breats are very white, and if you wrap them in bacon they won't dry out too much. Good eats for sure.
I don't always chase tail, but when I do; its whitetail. Stay camo my friends.

Wild Turkey is very good. I usually dont bother with the legs at all. Yes, you will want to be sure and not dry it out. Good luck!
