Has anyone tried shooting their shotgun through the mesh on pop up blinds?? My concern is possibly setting the mesh on fire with the muzzle blas t.BUT i would think that if the muzzle was tight againt the mesh when u pulled the trigger the muzzle blast would punch a hole through the mesh and you could avoid a fire. Anyone with experience ??? Bill

I know what your saying, I've never tried it, but I think I'd leave the windows open a bit and not chance it. |
Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a bowel movement by the clean end

Bill, My buddy did it a couple of years ago by accident (the excitement of a gobbler in front of him made him forget ) but there was no problems just made a big mess of the screen.Shoot Straight Kirk PS: have not forgot about the pics, just have not got my camera back |

my blind has a warning about using guns through the mesh. It says that you could set it on fire but I haven't tried it to find out. Personally, I took the mesh off for turkeys. They are not as bothered by the big black holes as deer are. |

Mine has the same warning. Just a little heads up guys. My dad shot his .280 out of our blind two years ago. He was nearly deaf right afterwards. He had a crackling noise in his ears for weeks after that and finally went in to a hearing specialist. The doctor said that dad had hearing damage in his left ear that will probably not return. The crackling noise finally went away but he has permanent damage to one ear. Here's what happened: He was shooting at some deer and got pretty excited. He had his muzzle back a couple feet back from the window and all the other windows were closed. When he pulled the trigger some of the blast went out the window but a lot of the muzzle blast stayed in the blind. He said it sounded like a stick of dynomite going off next to his ear. I can't remember ever reading a warning about this happening but be assured it can. Make sure your barrel is out the window or tight against the screen when you shoot out. I would hate for this to happen to any of you. My dad really regrets ever doing it. |

Thanks everyone. Still not decided yet as to whether i should cut some slits in it or just shoot through it, but will give it some more thought. Bill |

My wife shot thru one on my blind last year, did not start on fire but did put a hole about the size of a half dollar in the mesh...........................as said before don't worry about it too much the turkeys don't mind, just be sure you do not open two windows directly across from eachother and you will not get busted. |

i've never used a blind,,i've been in one once last year..,,,but, couldn't a guy just cut a small enough slit big enough to stick his barrell out? would that help? you wouldn't make a mess of your mesh, and it would still be functional...?/I don't know...lol..i don't own one??..lol..just a thought |

I can also add to this. I have numerous home made fully enclosed wood stands with pop open windows elevated on posts. I personnally have shot a .270 and a muzzleloader out of them with no problems. The key is to get the barrel out the window to where all the muzzle blast is released outside the blind. That is a good reminder buckstop |

Lots of good information here, I'll be keeping it all in mind when I'm out hunting this turkey season.

I had myself set up in the blind with my gun last year and found that my gun put me to far back in the blind, like there wasn't enough room. I was going to leave the screens off, but wasn't sure what it looked like from out in the field and an open hole, so I opted to take it back down and put myself back up against a tree. I have shot my cross bow through the screen though....now I have a little X in the screen... I would have never thought how loud it could be inside when shooting though. VERY good to know. good luck. |

My Doghouse blind acutally warns against firearms through the mesh for the same reasons previously mentioned. |
