Great Newfie Hunter

Hi all,
What a morning for me this was as I will always remember it.I got to my spot this morning and got setup before light.I putout my decoys(jake and hen) and did some calling.I thought that nothing was going to happen when I got caught when the gun on my lap and a turkey looking right at me from about 15 yrs to the side of my decoys(busted)as I was raising the gun he was off.
I knew then I had to pack it up and leave, man was I upset.
Got in the car and went to my other spot not figuring I was going to see anything. When I got there I saw three turkeys down at the end of the field.I got in there and got my decoys setup approx25 yrs in front of me.I then took out my thriple threat call and did a few clucks and a couple of purrs. As I was waiting all of a sudden out of the corner of my eye I caught 3 red heads coming up the field.I could see them kinda going so far and looking in towards me but I wouldnt move.It didnt take long before the lead turkey was within 5 yrs of my decoys and let out the big gobble and thats the last time he would ever gobble.I learned alot today, got busted but I didnt give up.My heart was pounding as those 3 red heads were coming closer to my decoys.Just an amazing morning.I didnt have my camera nor was anyone with me so i had to take the picture on my lawn.

Way to go. See, it pays not to give up; even when the morning starts with somewhat of a disappointment.

Nice story.

Congratulations

Hi all,
I just spent all afternoon thinking about what had happen to me today.Got busted early as the turkey came in silent and then seeing the turkeys come up the field before getting to my decoys.I have learned alot as maybe its better to be able to see whats going on around you than get suprised by a turkey that didnt even gobble and I got so excited that it could have even been a hen that surprised me.All I know is I will never forget this day and I have my second tag and will go back at it sometime next week as I am working this weekend.Good luck to all and I hope you all have a good heart as mine almost came out of my chest this morning.

Right on Perrysbirds!!!!

Awesome stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a bowel movement by the clean end

Congrats on your first bird. I'm sure it will be the first of many now.

One thing I have realized over the years is never count yourself out until the season is over for these birds. You just never know when will show up. I had the very first bird that I ever had come in silent today, but we'd already seen him before that so we know he was there.

Thanks guys for the wonderful remarks. It is truely a game of patience.I will hit the woods hard again on Monday and Tuesday if weather permits.Im hooked for life on Turkey Hunting.I had my Turkeys cleaned by people who do it professionaly here in the Barrie region and yesturday they cleaned what was an esitmate of 50 turkeys or more,so lots of sucess in this area on opening day,off to work for the next 2 days but I cant wait for Monday.Good luck to all and be safe.
