Hi all, Im sure that this may have been brought up before but with this being my first year turkey hunting I was wondering whats the hunting like latter in May towards the end of the season? The reason I ask this is because due to work related issues I am finding it hard to get out.I booked off a weeks vacation in the middle of May.I got a jake and would love to get a tom.Any thoughts. Thanks Perry |

I could get long winded on this but late may is a really great time to be out. Boss gobblers are often looking for willing hens which are nesting at this time. A lot of big Toms are blasted in the late season and there are a lot less hunters out there. Good luck!! |

Talking with people thats the answer I am getting also.I guess when the hens are on eggs and the toms are roaming it must be a tough time being a jake.

Renegade is right and some other good points were also made. In some ways, I think it's better. The "less hunters" thing is very accurate, but the birds are still looking and the amount of hens to breed become fewer. |

Good question, perry. This brings me to ask these following questions as they relate to your thread.. What decoy set up would be best during the latter part of the season? I would think a lone hen would be good to go with, from what I've heard and read here. What have you guys tried and has worked for you in the latter part of the season? |

still seeing alot of hens around right now, but when they nest which should be anytime now, the toms will come a looking. I like the very start of the season and the last week best. |

Looks like we don't have any turkey hunters on board who know what decoy set-ups and calls to use during the late season. Either that, or they don't want to give away their secrets. lol |

I've shot some very decent birds from May 24 to the end of the season. Each time all I could think about was eating that second tag!! These birds seemed to be very eager to come in. I used a single hen with a fanned-out jake tail. I called just uses clucks and purrs.

I dont attract them,I go where they are ![]() There was huge tom there with 4 hens and he wouldnt come close enough on Monday morning for a shot.Lots of fun though! This morning I had 3 hens come so close to me that I could have smacked them on the heads with the barrel of my gun,but no tom or jake. |

Killed my biggest and first tom late in the season last year. Agree with all of the above. I used no decoy, and think that was the only way I would have coaxed him in. With my limited experience I think with a hen dec out in sight the old boys will just sit and strut and wait for the hen to make a move. Just my two cents, but it is a great part of the season for sure. Good luck. |
