hmm not sure how i missed this question. I have hunted birds throughout the day and they just walk around milling about feeding and looking for love. Great time to run and gun, or to sit on travel routes. Pretty soon the hens will be tending nests so the toms will be alone with nothing to do. Birds heading back to their roosts are doing it a bit later than 7pm, or at least thats what i have found, but its always nice to get out and enjoy a sunny afternoon no matter whats happening |

I've found it wiser to not hunt to close to roosting areas in the evening. If your too close and they head back early, but you get busted, you've pretty much screwed yourself for the next morning when the odds are in your favour. I like about 2 or 3 in the afternoon along dry plowed field edges. Dust bowls are easy to find and they really like a sunny afternoon dusting. Saw 4 birds out today dusting, just couldn't get in on them where they were. Great place to set up tomorrow early afternoon though. I rarely hunt past 4. Give them lots of time to head back, pressure free to roosting areas. |
