This morning I had plans on hunting all day if needed as the longbeards lately seemed content staying on the properties bordering the one I was on and only jakes would come out to play. I knew it would come down to a game of patience and fortunately I have plenty!

The gobbling started in front of me at 4:40am, picked up intensity around 5:15am, then everything went quiet. The only gobbling could be heard on the other side of the property behind me. I would hunt that bird later if needed!

Every once in awhile I would do some clucks, purrs and soft yelps hoping to get a gobble in front of me, nothing?? I had put one bobb'n head hen decoy in front of me in a recently plowed field in the darkness and hoped it would draw in a lonesome gobbler.

It was quite breezy and cool this morning, so after a calling sequence, I tucked my cold hands into my vest and settled in for possibly a long wait. It was currently 6:15am and I hoped some turkeys would come out into the fields as the morning wore on.

At 6:25am, I was daydreaming when I thought I heard a turkey purr! Then I heard it again! Past experiences has taught me to react quickly in case a turkey had sneeked in on my set-up, so I quickly scanned the landscape while quietly taking the safety off my gun. I no sooner had done that when off to my left a longbeard appeared and went into strut, 30 yards out and put on a show for my hen decoy! While I slowly got the gun up, 2 hens popped up in the long grass between me and the gobbler! It was their purrs that tipped their hand and put me in the drivers seat!

I let the longbeard strut up towards my decoy, then gave him a few clucks to get his head up. No go, so I clucked again and again and again! Finally the head came up and I stroked the trigger. The gobbler went down at 6:30am and my season is over!

You're not paying for a stay at the Hilton, you're paying to participate in nature. Anything can happen.
I work part time so I can hunt full time

Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a bowel movement by the clean end
