Went for an afternnon/evening hunt today and didn't see anything but deer. But on my way out in another fiels there was a huge tom at the other end of the field near the the edge of the bush. Anyway, to make a long story short, I watched him from a distance until 8:20 when he walked into the bush. So I went to the truck and got the blind and set it up on the edge of the field and will try to get him in the morning before heading to work. I have to keep trying to fill this second tag.

This is only the second time I've hunted turkeys in the afternoon so this is all new to me, and only the first time ever roosting a bird.

The square of bush he went in is only about 100 yards deep and 50 to 100 yards wide in some spots. My question is, how far do they usually go into the bush before he fly's up to roost for the night?

Like I said, it was about 8:20 when he entered the bush.

I'm n o expert but I have been busted a few times by walking under roosted birds. I find they don't go in very far if there are suitable trees. I have seen them about 25 yds in mostly. Go get im !!!!!!!

Yup Terry M is right . Most of the time they fly up real close to the field. They know their eyesight is great and love to look over large areas. My advice is this. Get in there real early. Real early! It's surprising how they will peg you even with a little light in the mornings. You should have enough leaves by know that you can get in there but you have to deal with dear running and snorting , etc.... so it's nice to let things calm down before you start to call. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!! Afternoon hunts are great . If you don't get him in the morning sit where you seen him roost in the evening and he should be real close come sunset.

Good luck, I hope you get him!
Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a bowel movement by the clean end

No luck with him. He flew down at 6:15 on the opposite side of the field I was set up on and he didn't want nothing to do with the bob'n hen decoy or my calling. He followed the edge of thre bush and that was last I saw of him. I stayed until 10:00 and packed it in.
