So my buddy and I took out first crack at turkey hunting this morning, and were both back at the camp by 8am. I shot what I would call a big tom, and my buddy shot a smaller jake. Intense!!!!!!! I'm still vibrating with excitemet. Got lots of pics, but I didnt bring the hose to connect my camera to the computer, have to wait til I get home Wednesday for some pictures, and some more details
so last night I loaded up a couple photos onto the computer, found a computer with a slot for the SD card. I only got some from yesterday, not today yet, those'll have to wait.

Today was another great day, 17 minutes after legal light I shot another good sized gobbler. Was pretty neat, he was gobbling on the roost before first light, then right at legal light he flew down and landed at the far end of the field I was in. Took just over 15 minutes, and a bit of soft calling, and he worked right in. As he got to my decoy a hen flew down and landed right by him too. He wasn't paying any attention to my two hen decoys or the real deal hen, he was pretty worked up about my jake decoy. Kept gobbling at it, and strutting, and waving his tail in its face, dragging his wings, was pretty wild to watch, after a couple minutes of that I got a good bead on him and dropped him at about 40 yards. The whole time he was doing this two jakes and another hen stood about 50 yards off and watched. after I shot him they all ran around in circles for a second, then came in to investigate what was going on, checked out my decoys, checked out the dead bird, and the jakes came within about 25 yards of me. Then the Toms reflexes kicked in and his legs started kicking and they all beetled out of there, pretty neat.

He was a touch smaller than yesterdays, but still seemed to me to be a mature gobbler. He weighed in at 21 lbs, with spurs about 1 and 3/8", but had a longer beard, it was 9.5"
Below is a picture of my tom from yesterday; 22lbs, 1.5" spurs, and a 9" beard.

I got to my spot it was about 4:30am and set up two hens and a jake 15 yards in front of me to my left. After I was done with the decoy set-up, I then I settled in behind a big old tree stump and waited for light to come up. Just as light was starting to come up at 5:25 I heard the first gobble (he was still on his roost). Started calling at 6:20am and not even 2 minutes laster two jakes headed for my decoys and hung up about 5 yards from behind my decoy set-up. I already had the bow drawn and let the arrow tipped with the Spitfire fly and made a perfect vital shot and he didn't go 5 yards and keeled over. Just nubs and a 4" beard.

Next quest is for a Tom.

In WI we only have one 5 day season. The only chance that I was going to get to hunt was Saturday and Sunday. I really wanted to get out as my 8 year old son was looking to go with. Saturday we had excessive winds and elected not to go. That oly left today. We got out earely. My buddy was calling for me. We heard one in the distance and ran to close the gap and re set up. I wasnt sitting a minute and the Tom responded. He responded a minute later this time CLOSER! My gun was up, my sons eyes were the size of quarters and here he came into view about 40 yards all fanned out. Then he put his feathers down. Then fanned up again. I wanted him to come closer but was worried about him catching my son moving, so I let him have it.

First bird ever! (I just started Turkey Hunting last year) What a blast! I think my son even had more fun.

24.5 lbs / 1 in Spurs / 11 in beard

Got out this A.M. and the birds were goin' crazy on the roost. At least 7 or 8 different birds were soundin' off. I glassed the treeline on the far edge of the field I was huntin' and saw a Tom in full strut on the limb of a tree. That's somethin' I've never witnessed before. Pretty sweet. Once the time felt about right I let out a few soft yelps and a short while later he responded and about 2 mins later he flew down into the field and started his journey over to me. I took him about 5 mins to close the gap from 400yds to 40yds. As I peeked out the side of the blind I could see him standing as tall as possible and I figured he has now spotted the lone feeding hen decoy I had in the field. Then I hear a loud snort and foot stompin' from right behind me. Almost had one of those trouser cleanin' moments right there!!! ;D I heard the deer trot away and the bird just stood there watchin' the deer, then back to the decoy, deer, decoy, deer, decoy.....this went on for a couple of mins. Then I hear more gobblin' comin' from the field and sure enough about 200yds behind him is 3 birds in strut, 2 jakes and 2 hens. He started to turn to go back to see what they were doin' so I yelped a few times on the ol' diaphram call and he turned and committed and crossed the fence row about 15yds infront of me and hung-up in the raspberry cane for awhile then continued on through. Once in the field on my side of the fence he started to walk quickly to get around the decoy. Once he slowed down to a walk I let 'er fly at 28yds and my arrow caught him right below his R wing and after a 30yds dash he was down and out!!!!! Man that felt good to see him go down. While I was breasting him out I decided to check the damage of my shot. I stuck my finger in the entry hole and I could actually feel his heart literally rollin' around in his chest cavity!! Giddy-up!

Here's some stats and pics.

21lbs

9.5" beard

L spur 1 1/16
R spur 1 3/16

Well was sent home from work this morning on account of the rain....so hit my turkey spot on the way home and sat all morning from 7:30-8:00...till about 20 to 2...packed it in...as i was driving out i notice 2 tom's walking threw the field heading for the east property line....couple hundred yard's.....i brake the truck just as i'm coming out into the feild they are in...old un farmed fields so the ceder's are growing out into it...these bird's see me .....so made a quick decision and through the truck in reverse and backed back in where they could not see me any more and quickly get out get the sock off the shotty and get the shell's in quietly....then head down along the edge of the field under the concealment...(is that a word??)...at this point i'm not even sure that i did not spook them with the truck.....after a about a 100yds or so i start to head out to the thinner stuff to see if i can see them ....bingo...i spot one it is about 40-50yds out ...i step back in and skirt around a big clump of ceder's....then belly crawl the last few yard's....then get up on one knee..approx 30yds..he catch's my movement and stretches his neck out for a look....only thing blocking my view now is a big brushy branch on a spruce....shoulder the gun and start to rise up until that sweet spot is in view and let him have it.....BIRD DOWN.... woohoo .....here are some pic's..and stat's

18.5 #
7/8 and 3/4 spur's
10 1/4" beard ...if its only one ...not sure...if it's 2 the other is 10 1/8...
