Fall turkey season

In the fall...while sitting in my tree stand hunting deer with my crossbow I have watched hens walk right under me...not sure if this fall I would like to shoot it rather than keep hunting for that big buck that might come out any time. Only time will tell. But I don't think I will give up deer hunting in the beginning of the season to go and focus on hunting turkeys...but thats just me. Swapping spring tags for a fall one would be awesome but I doubt that will happen.

Like every State in the USA , you will have the choice to buy Spring and Fall tags. This is not uncommon and is just the way a systems runs in both countries. If the price of a fall tag is going to cut into your pocket book then consider only buying one tag in the spring.

Transfers will not happen anywhere.... (;

if the price of a fall tag was to cut into my pocket book. I would be buying 2 in the spring.

Most ontario hunters have never hunted in the fall (including myself), and in my opinion if they think it's going to be like spring hunts they're going to get an eye opener.

Maybe we need some fall tactics and ideas posted..

i hunt in virginia .. when i purchas my tags i get deer turkeys and bear ... the turkey tags are 3 tags two of wich must be either taken in the spring or fall... so at least 1 bird must be shot in sprin or fall....... now they have just implemented a earn a buck... you must shoot a doe before you can shoot a second buck.. they are not killing enuff deer off.... looks like it might be another record year down south again

just need to hunt the travel routes, my spots will be in the same places i hunt in the spring, i doubt i will call, but will carry the mouth call, i might even put a decoy out, more for a confidence decoy than anything else.
The only eye opener for me will be i get to shoot either a deer or a turkey or both, either way the land owner will be happy

Chessy,

I have a buddy that keeps inviting me to hunt turkey and deer in Virginia.
Is this right $86 for hunting licence and 66 dollars to hunt turkey, bear and deer.
If it is I may have to take a couple of trips.

Thanks Tim

Chessy,

Truthfully, I have never checked into the price for tags there, I just expected it to be too much money for tags for a non-resident so I have never have hunted there. I wish you would have said the tags were 500 bucks that would be easier. My buddy invites me every year. I usually go down to visit and attend a conference in Fairfax County. He lives about 80 miles from there and I am not sure what county.

But the main reason I have never pursued it is that I have a buddy in Texas with acces to over 10,000 acres and another in Michigan with over 3000 acres. plus Ontario and New Brunswick man I need to retire so I can just hunt.

I don't have a problem with that but that is the difference in the fall, and in my opinion why there is so much debate over it.
If your deer hunting with a turkey tag in case a turkey comes by no biggie. Your in a stand or blind stationary. If your turkey hunting and say your doing the "run and gun" technique this is where I think some deer hunters are debating about it's timing.

never really called it run and gun i know you make alot of noise to bust up flocks so deer hunters in stands will be upset but if done right you can do mini drives.... and kill both.... i am looking over allot of data sent to me on friday.... and from what i am reading .... we had 8725 new hunter in 2007 and we only killed 170 more birds... 22% success rate... nothing for 2008 yet.... i am compiling data to figure out i will post after week end.... but so far the area i hunt in droped from 172 birds to 150

i can;t run and gun either time, fields are too big and swamp is too wet and thick, wish i had some ridges and hard woods to hunt
