Keep it simple and it will work fine. We have non res members so they should be able to enter birds also is my opinion. |

i think bows and crossbows should be the same points. |

my 2 cents is that X-bows and Compounds are totally different catagory. think of the movement needed to harvest a weiry tom with a Compound compared to a Xbow. Just my opinion.

I agree with buckmark1982 somewhat, if you are not hunting from a blind. If you are in a blind they won't see the movement so where do you draw the line on archery. crossbow or compoud or trad in ontario they are all considered archery and should get the same points. I guess it would be the same with muzzleloader it would still be using shot or a firearm. As far as non-residents go if they hunt in Ontario and kill an Ontario turkey they should be able to enter it here. The reason I say this is the rules seasons etc. are different in some other areas. In some states you can kill 2 birds with one shot and it is legal. But of course I will go along with whatever the majority feel. I do have one question the answer to may settle this for me. In the deer contest could you enter a deer taken anywhere or just from ontario. Anyway I just think this contest would be great. |

I thought this could be a a bunch of catagories, Blind- Compound- decide on how many points you get for this type of kill, plus beard measurements, spurs etc. Blind- Shotgun- Blind- Cross bow- No blind- Compound- No blind- Shotgun- No blind- Cross bow- Then having these you could put bearded hen, jake, tom, and add all the other stuff to it. llike spur mesasurements and beard and all that |

Birds taken from a blind regardless of weapon should be awarded equal points. Birds taken with xbow or shotgun in the open are worth more than anything taken from inside a blind say 5 points. Birds taken with trad or compound in the open are worth the most say 10points. This would be additional points added to the persons score. |

Count me in! I would suggest beard and spur length. Scales can really vary on weight. It might even be tricky measuring beards and spurs as your dealing with eights or sixteenths of an inch. How about 10 points for a mature gobbler and five for jakes with extra points if taken with a bow and forget the measuring part all together That would be easy. |

Getting back to a team concept vs individual. Is there a way to promote the telling of good stories and taking pictures (in a team format) like previous contests where we voted on our favourite stories and pictures? |

You also have to take into consideration there is now a fall season where hens can be harvested, so you need to decide if the contest will include both seasons. |

SO,If I shoot a bearded hen weighing in at 35 lbs and used my compound set at 90 lbs sitting in the grass in the wide open wearing blaze orange, but shot her at a measured 78 yards with one shot will that give me some bonus points? Good luck on the decision making.Sounds as though its going to be a great time.PS--And yes Ricoh, maybe an 8 man team wouldent be so bad

I am a little confused. I thought this post was for a team contest. Are you saying there isn't enough interest so going back to individual story and photos contest only. I thought there was going to be both one for those that want to compete individually for prizes with their writing and photo skills and one for teams just for fun and bragging rights. And Road I agree apprentice hunters should get extra points and even their own tag. |

Huh? Have you read the same thread I have. Sounds to me like most would like to see a team event. We could have an individual story and picture portion of the contest too. We could do both. Keeping it relatively simple is a good approach to this. |

I would like to be included too. I see that there is no score for a bearded hen.Maybe she should be in there too. I like the archery extra scores. 2 tags available mybe one with the crossbow and one without is my plan. Good luck everyone. Oh yea I think this should be a Spring only contest. Ken. |

Rather than teams being draw why not decide on how many teams and have captains nominated and they pick their team.I feel this will create more dialogue and allow teams to probably hunt together. Brent J.. |

I hear ya Extreme kinda like back in grade school. Please pick me. Please pick me . Aw man we get stuck with timbrhuntr again, can't we pick over. How were the teams made up for the deer contest? You could Make a last date for sign up. Then we could put everyone in a list alphabetically and just figure out from the number how many we want on a team and then make the number of teams. Then go down the list putting one on each team until everyone has a team. That way nobody feels left out if they don't get picked (especially me). |

This sounds like a good idea to me. It would also prevent knowledgable team captains from getting all the good players. Some captains would know who the "proven turkey hunters" are and this would give them the advantage from captains who didn't. |

I think all contestants in the turkey contest should fight in a UFC type event in a round robin elimination. Winners would then go up the ladder until there is one champion. Any thoughts on this and would this work? |

We can definately pick the teams randomly. I'm leaning toward the team concept with an individual portion mixed in for the story and pics. As for scoring, we have a lot of options there. I think trad bow should get a little boost in score too. As for the blind vs on the ground. That would be hard to determine and make things pretty complicated. Prett tough to gauge the difficulty and really, isn't all about the outsmarting of a bird reglardless of method. Let's see where Ian and Extreme are on this anyway. They have certainly have had a lot of ideas thrown their way......
