How does everyone think the turkey's made out this winter? Better or worse than last winter? The pounding of snow we got early in the winter concerns me.

Do ya think there were many casualties?

The one spot where I see a big flock of about 60 was the same this winter as last.
Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a bowel movement by the clean end

From what I have seen they made out just fine. Can't wait for the season to open!

They've made out great so far. They did good last winter and last year was worst than this year. I remember snow on the ground just a couple weeks before the season opened and I hunt just North of Peterborough. Turkeys a damn tough animals. :lol!!!:
I don't always chase tail, but when I do; its whitetail. Stay camo my friends.

I agree they're as hardy or hardier than a grouse. One of the biggest winter threat to them is deep powder, if they fly down into 2'-3' of powder they may not be able to fly back to roost.

I've seen them stay in the roost for several days during deep powder conditions, waiting for the snow to settle or harden up.

Definitely in good condition here, we have had 200 or 300 birds using 2 fields just south of us. Have not seen them in a week, perhaps they are starting to break off into smaller groups as the snow disappears in the woods.

will have to ask my buddy, they normally take out a few flocks a year with the train, when the snow is deep or the birds are in a rock cut they can only fly away or to the train, lots of birds don't make it. The deeper the snow the more common it is for the birds to use the tracks as a way to walk around

I think they are in good shape. Here, in SW Ontario, we had heavy snow in January however they got a reprieve with that thaw the first week in February.
They are quite resourceful when it comes to food sources, they eat damn-near anything!
As someone else mentioned in heavy snow they will sit in the trees for days.

Looks like they're doing okay. Dad got up to counting 75 in a flock before he stopped counting, just outside of Walton, Ontario.

I've seen them in pretty decent numbers while driving around Waterloo Region, Huron County and Oxford County as well.
