Today I had to do probably the hardest thing I have ever had to do. Although I have had dogs in my life since I can remember Jessy was "my" first dog. I have had her since she was three months old, shortly after I got married. My wife wasn't in total agreement, to say the least, when I bought her but soon Jessy was a part of our family. I trained Jessy for hunting since she was a pup, she had desire and heart like no other dog I have met. Eager to please and loved to retrieve. I hunted over her for many great years, each hunt having its own special memories. Although hunting was placed on the back burner with more additions to my family, Cole and Emily, Jessy was always by my side. Cole was still to young to go with me hunting but was always the first out the door to greet Jess and I when we arrived home after a hunt. ![]() Today I had to lay Jessy to rest. At almost 13 Jessy had very bad arthritis in all her joints especially her knees and hips. The past couple weeks Jess barely ate anything and was having trouble breathing but still in good spirit. We (Jess and I) went to the vet this morning and got the bad news. Cancer.... We will all miss her dearly especially this little girl ![]() Jessy's last hours were spent with me and although she was full of cancer we went retrieving one last time she loved the water!!!! ![]() ![]() I think she liked that, it was her last hurrah!!!!! We miss you Jessy and will see you on the flip side. Happy Hunting girl. ![]() |

NatV and I offer our sincere condolences! We had to put down our 15 and 16 year old dogs about a year and a half ago and I still miss them, even though we have two wonderful new ones in our family now. Been there, know how you feel and feel for you. BrianV |

That is one of the hardest things for hunters to do, After sharing those cool fall mornings in the duck blind with mans best friend so many times. I'm sure you'll never forget Jessy. I know I remember all the hunting partners that I've had throughout the years, Bad run of luck. Better to end it then let them suffer, I never have been able to let any of mind suffer as much as I know that I'll miss them so much. Matt |

fISHNHUNT: What can I say?? I just spent the last few minutes swallowing real hard, looking at my black Lab Cindy, knowing at nearly 13, she's not far behind Jessy. All I've ever owned are Labs, and in the past 20 years, have had to have two- yellows- euphanized. My God, it's tough!! I'm tearing right now as I write this. I often think of'Shamrock' and 'Bonnie', and through the years, it just doesn't seem to get any easier. How I loved those dogs Your right FISHNHUNT, you will see her on the flip side, for " heaven is the place where all the dogs you've ever loved come to greet you".
