There's alot of misconception that SASK is nothing but paperflat prarie....
Anyone that tells you that is a schmuck!..Tell them I said so...lol..
No really, SASK is so diverse it's like hunting 5 different provinces, all sorts of different senarios and terrain.
Of course parts of SASK are flat, but that is not the entire province...it's so diverse it'l make your head spin!

here's some of SASK I bet you didn't know exsisted!

We have rattlesnakes, cactus, rolling deserts, lush forests, rolling hills, badland canyons and gullies, plains, and even Canadian Sheild....it's amazing..
In Biggar there are cactus in the plains and norht 5 k away, rolling bear hills...it's unreal!
Hunting there is amazing and the Migratory Birds are unbelievable to see...it's nothing to watch 10's of thousands of Geese, Snowy's in flight come Fall...
Every part is unique to itself, a province I love!
If you give it a try, you'll see what I mean.
I've hunted Biggar, Kelvington, Round Lake, Carot River, Assiniboia, Cypress Hills, Preeceville, Wilkie geez you name it,,so much to see...
Give her a shot, you'll have the time of your life and enjoy seeing and experiencing SASK for all it can give you....and the fishing is AMAZING also.
Tobin lake breaks records for Walleye every year in the Province.

Elk, Whitetail, Mulies, Moose, Black Bear, Wolverine, Badger, Antelope, man the list goes on....

Good Stuff. I agree, it is a very diverse providence. There are a lot of states/providences that are very diverse, and unless you see lots of pictures or experience it yourself, it can be easy to categorize it as one type of terrain. Even with my homestate of Kansas. There is the heavily wooded areas in the east side, Flint Hills in the middle and flat prairie in the West.

Interesting topic!

The last picture is from Clearwater River Sask....
If you ever get the chance for a one in a lifetime fishing trip, fish Lake Athabasca on the SASK side. Take the rivers up to it and get ready for MONSTER PIKE, Walleye and even Grayling.
It holds the record for the biggest freshwater Rainbow that was caught by net weighing 101.8 pounds.
The fishing is insane and the beauty is mind blowing. That whole Mackenzie River system is mind blowing!!!!
Lake Athabasca is over a staggering 300K long....insane!

now that IS something I'd love to do with some OTB folks!
The Mackenzie River boat and hunting trip man....start at Hay River and flow up north to Norman Wells NWT and hunt for Moose!!!!!!....now that I'd be up for!!!!!

Are you planning on doing much hunting this fall Chris? Curious how long it takes to become recognized as a resident and get a WIN card for Alberta. That is pretty cool. Looking forward to reports from out west.

Oh you bet I'm hunting hard this Fall...
I'm pretty sure, that you have to be a resident 1 year, to get Alberta resident status, but all hunters hunting here need a WIN card.
I'll be going to the Rockies close to here as well as the foothills...but first I'll be going to my old stompin grounds up by Whitecourt. Know the area well and have already had friends tell me of several herds where I'm welcome to hunt private land that butts onto Crown bush.
My buudy just emailed me a pic of some in his back quarter that have been there for 3 weeks already, but are just now starting to move a bit.
And I'll definatly be going to SASK for Whitetails...my buddy is also itchin to get me out for Pheasant there, he has so many on his land it's nuts! And it's been a longwhile since i've seen or eaten one, I just can't say NO...lol..
He's south of Swift Current. The amount of Hun's and Pheasant there is rediculous! I haven't hunted that zone in awhile!
From what he says as well, the amount of Mulies there is WAY too high there. I know this was a problem even when I was there last.
Geez, it's changed so much, that Biggar even has Moose and Elk tags for the area. I remember the year I left seeing 2 and knowing that they were coming from the other side of S'Toon, and moving closer. as well as /Cougar and Moose moving south from Meadow Lake area...
I've seen some huge bull Moose hunting Biggar for Flags & Mules...but no season there so you just watch them..lol..

Nice pics and info about SK bigfoot. I just moved here from AB last year. The whitetail near our place in SK are 4 times bigger than our place in AB. I live a little too north for pheasant and missed hunting them so much last fall. I raised my dog hunting them in AB and I just couldn't convert him over to ducks and geese.

The density of mule deer around Swift Current and along the AB border is causing some problems despite just numbers. I went to a research talk last week on CWD in the deer population. It was actually quite an interesting and comprehensive research project. Besides doing the head collections in cetain WMUs, they put GPS on a few hundred of them and tracked their movement for a couple years. They wanted to see how far an infected deer would travel to spread diesease. Turns out deer wander a lot farther than they previously predicted. The CWD is most concentrated north of Swift Current and along the AB border. Not much at all south of Swift Current.

They also tested a few hundred deer both whitetail and mule deer for several bacterial, viral, and parasitic infections. Turns out that mule deer carry more than double the infection rate of disease than whitetail. Makes sense to me because mule deer seem to be more social than whitetail deer. They also said CWD does not cause human infection, but that it may be wise to avoid eating brain matter and lymphoid tissue in WMUs with CWD.

We are about 1/2 south of Saskatoon. They are talking about opening a moose season here this fall. I have seen a couple really nice bulls. There use to be a pile of elk here, but after opening a season a couple years ago, they have all but disappeared. I hope they are a little more careful at managing the moose if they open up a season on them here.
Saw a few mule deer and whitetail deer this fall around 180.

If I wasn't too busy this time of year, I would try for some bear too. Too bad we have to work for a living.

did a bird hunt in the southern part of Sask in Val Marie, had a great time filled our limits of birds, saw a young bull moose just outside of the Grasslands park, loads of mulies and whitetails with a few speed goats. Wish i still kept in touch with the good folk we hunted with, their property had nothing but a fence or two seperating them from the States, but it was still miles away.

Saskatchewan is a nice province and is quite diverse from North to South. I would recomend that everyone try hunting out there at least once. (also AB, BC, MB, YK, and NWT)
